Storytelling is a critical skill for today’s resilient changemakers and a key theme explored at the American Express Leadership Academy in London. Today, our participants spent the morning visiting organizations such as Shakespeare's Globe and Benjamin Franklin House, both of which have unique and compelling stories of their own. Reflecting on her visit, Kate Grigg, from this year’s UK EMEA Leadership Academy cohort said, “If you can tell a story, use it to grow, collaborate and nurture partnerships, then you know you’re halfway there to solving complex problems. If you can tell a good story, you can cross boundaries.”

It’s #TeamAmex Tuesday! Today, Angelique from NYC shares how our learning and development opportunities have supported her career growth at American Express: My name is Angelique, I’m a Senior Executive Assistant and I’ve been at American Express since 2005. Throughout my career, Amex’s learning and development opportunities have been total game changers for me. We have access to a variety of free resources and trainings which are so helpful in keeping my skills up to date in a world that’s constantly evolving. I’ve been able to expand my knowledge in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote, as well as Canva and Qualtrics software, which have all helped me improve my productivity and creativity. I feel like I’m getting all the benefits of going back to school right at work – and it’s all free! It’s so important to continue to learn and not get comfortable with the status quo, and I feel fortunate to be a part of a company that is so supportive of both my professional and personal growth. Check out our LinkedIn Life page to learn more about what it’s like to be a part of #TeamAmex. https://lnkd.in/eJPA7P-8

This week, we welcomed 60 non-profit leaders from across Europe, Middle East and Africa to the American Express Leadership Academy in London, delivered in partnership with Common Purpose. Purposeful leadership is one of the core themes of the Academy and is critical for resilient changemakers in the sector. On opening day, American Express Chief Marketing Officer Elizabeth Rutledge spoke with UN Goodwill Ambassador and entrepreneur Sabrina Elba who discussed the importance of purposeful leadership and shared: “Purpose today looks different to me than when I was a young girl. Sometimes we embark on a journey, but things don’t go the way we want. But your inner determination to change the narrative can help you define your purpose in that moment. Purpose doesn’t have to be a constant, it can change.” Common Purpose #AmexLeadershipAcademy, #leadershipdevelopment #nonprofit #TeamAmex
