We applaud Senators Joe Manchin and John Barrasso for introducing permitting legislation. The Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 would help reduce timelines for #CleanEnergy projects, accelerate interstate #transmission, and directs the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to establish an interregional transmission planning process. "America's burdensome permitting process has for years held back clean energy and transmission projects that are vital to our nation's electricity future," says ACORE's President and CEO Ray Long. "These provisions are a positive step forward with crucial bipartisan support, and we look forward to analyzing the impacts these reforms will have on clean energy investment and growth." LS Cable & System USA has begun mass production of 525 kV high-voltage direct current cables! Back in April, the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), American Clean Power Association (ACP), and other organizations sent a letter to the Northeast States Collaborative on Interregional Transmission highlighting the benefits of utilizing de factor global hardware standards for offshore wind transmission equipment that have developed in Europe over the past five years. That letter noted that equipment orders as of the spring of 2024 already exceeded $40 billion and were being procured from a range of both transmission platform manufacturers and cable manufacturers. LS Cable & System is one of the cable manufacturers producing 525 kV HVDC submarine cables for TenneT, the national power company of the Netherlands. This development can help East Coast states plan for large-scale offshore transmission with greater confidence in supply chain timing and pricing. *Note that 10 mid-Atlantic and northeastern states have signed an MOU to work cooperatively on large-scale transmission procurement. Procuring standardized equipment as outlined in the letter is a significant component of that coordination! Confused about how AD/CVD tariffs could impact the U.S. #solar sector? We've got you covered with a new explainer video. 🎥 According to a new Clean Energy Associates (CEA) analysis commissioned by the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), these tariffs could raise the cost of U.S.-made solar modules by 10 cents per watt and imported modules by 15 cents per watt. While the manufacturing of solar components is increasing in the U.S., we currently only produce 37.5% of modules and 12.5% of cells domestically. While domestic manufacturing production continues to ramp up, we need to import solar components. Injecting uncertainty into the market now could slow economic growth and affect the good-paying jobs #CleanEnergy creates, ultimately undermining U.S. climate objectives and inevitably raising energy costs for American families. Our new report, commissioned by American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), highlights potential impacts of new antidumping (AD) and countervailing duties (CVD) on the U.S. solar industry. If implemented, these duties could increase the price of U.S.-made solar PV modules by 10¢/W and imports by 15¢/W. The U.S. solar PV sector has shown significant growth, but these additional costs might challenge the goal of 500 GW installations by 2030, which is crucial for a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The industry already faces various trade barriers that elevate costs for domestic manufacturers and buyers. Policymakers are attempting to strike a balance between encouraging more new solar power development and promoting domestic production of these technologies. Check the comments below for links to PV Tech’s article on the new report, as well as a link to download the full report yourself. 🔗⬇️ We’ll be closely monitoring the situation and will report back when more details are released. #SolarPower #Tariff #PV #ADCVD #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy

Essential Solar Reading Alert: Impact of AD/CVD on Solar Imports from Southeast Asia 📢 Curious about the potential implications of antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD) on solar cells and modules imported from Southeast Asia? Our latest report at Clean Energy Associates (CEA) is a must-read! We've collaborated with the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) to delve into this critical issue. Commissioned by ACORE, our analysis provides a comprehensive look at the potential outcomes. What's at stake? The AD/CVD investigation, initiated by a petition on April 24, 2024, could have profound effects on U.S. solar installations and domestic manufacturing. Our detailed report highlights these key findings: 📉 The AD/CVD poses significant challenges for the solar industry, characterized by: 👉 Unpredictability: Duties are unknown at contract signing or upon product receipt. 👉 Retroactivity: Duties are applied approximately two years after the investigation. 👉 Annual Revision: Duty rates are continually reassessed and modified. 👉 Variability: Different suppliers and countries may be assigned distinct duty rates. 💸 The implementation of these duties could increase manufacturing costs by 10 ¢/W to 15 ¢/W, resulting in higher net module purchase prices for buyers. Read the full report by clicking the link in our comments 🚀 What surprised you the most, and how do you think this will impact the solar industry?
