Coming across this visual, I say to myself, "This honestly reflects how I try to lead my team." Looking back on a long career, it is sad to admit that several managers I worked under were the ghastly opposite of this. One or two came close to living up to what is represented in this chart. The good news is our current leadership at American Council of Trustees and Alumni is constituted this way.

  • We are thrilled to announce that Armand Alacbay, ACTA’s chief of staff and senior vice president of strategy, has been elected as the secretary of the George Mason University Board of Visitors. Mr. Alacbay is an expert in higher education governance and is dedicated to ensuring that trustees across the nation have the resources they need to exercise effective leadership.   Reflecting on his new role, he shared, “It has been nothing short of amazing to witness the transformation that George Mason has undergone over the past 40 years. • The American Council of Trustees and Alumni is a Gold goDCgo Transportation All-Star! We are thrilled to be recognized as a Gold goDCgo Transportation All-Star, a testament to our sustainable transportation choices. This award was given to ACTA to highlight our dedication in supporting the District of Columbia's transportation goals. Here is what we are doing to increase sustainability and benefit our employees: 1. Hybrid Schedule: When possible, employees are given the choice to utilize a remote day to work from home. This helps promote work-life balance and reduces carbon emissions associated with daily commuting. 2. Flexibility: Recognizing the diverse commuting needs of our team, we have established core office hours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while our office remains open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This flexibility enables employees to commute during off-peak hours, minimizing traffic congestion and supporting a smoother commute experience. 3. Commuter Benefits for Employees: To further promote sustainable commuting practices and alleviate the financial burden of transportation costs, we offer our commuting employees a pre-tax commuter benefit. This enables our team members to save up to 30% on transit expenses while actively encouraging the use of public transportation. At ACTA, we are committed to fostering a workplace culture that values sustainability and employee well-being.

  • The events of July 13 have shocked the nation. We are grateful to the many partner organizations and allies of the College Debates and Discourse Alliance that quickly released statements condemning the attempt on former President Trump's life and political violence in general. This heinous act, and its aftermath of divisive rhetoric on social media, reveals the dire state of our national discourse right now, and we must work together to change it. We are living through a historic moment and have a choice to make. We can either unite on a much-needed course correction that restores civil discourse and civic charity, or we can stay our current course and grow even more entrenched and divided. We are encouraged by those who have spoken out against toxic polarization and are working to combat it, and we stand ready to work with anyone and everyone to build bridges of understanding and restore healthy political discourse, especially in collaboration with the rising generation and future leaders of our country.  American Council of Trustees and Alumni, Braver Angels, BridgeUSA
