It was “demo day” in Houston for innovative offshore wind technologies. CLS Wind hosted a group from ABS to watch a prototype of their newest technology in action, a 1:5 scale industrial size demonstration unit of an elevator-style #windturbine assembly system. Earlier this year, the technology received approval in principle (AIP) from ABS. ABS specialists Rob Langford, Jason Folsom, Lars Samuelsson and Andrew Finley met with CLS Wind founders Kent Johnson (CEO) and Andres Garcia (CTO). The demonstration occurred at TXRX Labs, a maker’s warehouse on the east side of the city near the ship channel. CLS Wind is also a member of Greentown Labs Houston, one of the top clean energy incubators in the U.S. supporting entrepreneurs looking to bring new technologies to the market. The patented elevator-style assembly system promises easier, safer and faster wind turbine and nacelle installation and maintenance while reducing the number of large cranes and heavy-lift barges and vessels. As a global service provider headquartered in Houston, ABS is proud to support local innovators like CLS Wind who are generating new ideas for renewable energy production. #OffshoreWind #WindEnergy
