American Academy of HIV Medicine reposted this
Yesterday was Zero HIV Stigma Day, so I wanted to share the last Mediaplanet campaign that I worked on, Living With HIV and AIDS. As a member of the #lgbtq community, I thought I knew everything there is to know about HIV and AIDS - I think a lot of us can relate to growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s and learning about how the HIV epidemic ravaged our community just years before. The stigma that came from those times still exists today, but it effects even more than the LGBTQ community. We've made a huge amount of progress in the past 50 years: it is projected that White gay men in the US will be virally suppressed before 2030. But due to systemic inequities, discrimination, and pervasive stigma, several other populations have been left in the dust and do not have access to prevention, treatment, or even general information about HIV and AIDS. As a whole, we need to continue to fight against the epidemic and work towards a world where everyone can be free from the shadow of HIV and AIDS. Thank you to everyone involved, it was such a pleasure to work with you on such an important initiative!
