In celebration of National Service Dog Month and International Day of Charity, we wanted to highlight America's VetDogs and our work with them. In 2024, we decided to sponsor an America’s VetDogs puppy to eventually become an incredible service dog for a #veteran or #firstresponder. We named our puppy Storm and found an awesome handler/kibble coordinator to manage her training. After her 1st birthday, she’s nearly done with training and we’re excited to see who she’s placed with.   Follow along for updates on Storm’s progress. September is National Suicide Prevention Month. According to the VA, in 2021, 46,412 U.S. adults died by suicide, including 6,392 Veterans — an increase from the previous year. At America’s VetDogs, we are dedicated to reducing veteran suicide by placing specially trained service dogs with veterans living with disabilities. Recently, we joined Face the Fight, a coalition committed to ending veteran suicide and providing critical support to those in need. We will forever remember U.S. Army Major Peter Way, an America’s VetDogs graduate and member of our board of directors. 💙 While serving in the United States Army, Peter quickly rose to the rank of major. In 2002, Peter was deployed to Afghanistan where he was injured twice but continued to serve until December 2013. These injuries forced Peter to medically retire. In January 2013, Peter was teamed with Rory, his service dog. In appreciation and remembrance of Peter’s service, dedication, and leadership, America’s VetDogs has named a puppy “Pete” in his memory.
