The machine shop space at the University of Florida "is almost entirely run and operated by undergraduate students. And I think that’s really the thing that sets it apart," says Sean R. Niemi, PhD, ACE instructor at UF. He recently had the opportunity to detail how the space is used with WCJB TV20 News. Hear more about the benefits of it in the link below. Today's #MachiningMonday takes us to just outside the Canadian border - to Babbitt, MN! Students at Northeast Range School are using portable mills from ACE partner St. Cloud State University to build the air engine participants make in the ACE bootcamp. How fun to run into ACE alums exploring the #composites industry! We first met Neeki Meshkat, then a sophomore in Tickle College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee, at one of the first ACE #training bootcamps. We recently saw her again at the grand opening of Innovation South at UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. She's now a graduate student working under Uday Vaidya. She saw the promotional banner and said, "Hey, that's me!" In the past 2.5 years, Neeki has assisted in orthopedic research, studied abroad in materials sciences for bicycle manufacturing in Italy, collaborated with the UT vet school to design and prototype an abdominal retractor for equine surgeries, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biomedical Engineering.
