Amend is a correctional culture change program that brings Norwegian correctional principles of dignity, humanity and health to every U.S. prison system with which we work. Earlier this year Amend trainers from the Norwegian Correctional Service visited the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to evaluate their programs and provide ongoing training for their staff. This video depicts the hard work and dedication of everyone who works in North Dakota corrections. It also emphasizes the voices and humanity of everyone who lives in North Dakota correctional facilities. Together staff and residents build a foundation of trust and mutual respect that better prepares all for moments of adversity and challenge. These changes take time and considerable effort, but they are happening. #culturechange #prisonhealth #sharedfate

The Dochas Centre yesterday had the pleasure of hosting members of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, their staff, members of Amend at UCSF and donors to their project. The group were visiting as part of an immersion programme organised by Amend and facilitated by the Irish, Northern Ireland and Scottish Prison Services. Amend is a public health and human rights program that works in prisons to reduce their debilitating health effects on residents and staff, while also joining policy makers and community leaders to advance decarceration strategies and a better, new system of accountability and healing in the United States. The Director General Caron McCaffrey, Management, staff and residents of the Dochas Centre were able to take part in informative discussion with the group as they explored the Irish model for supporting women in custody.
