Cell’s latest 50th Anniversary issue includes a publication from Bay Area Institute of Science Director Jodi Nunnari, who reviews the key role of mitochondria in responding to stresses. Alongside her co-author, the University of Helsinki’s Anu Suomalainen Wartiovaara, she writes, “Mitochondria respond to intrinsic and extrinsic stresses and can alter cell and organismal function by inducing metabolic signaling within cells and to distal cells and tissues. Here, we review how the centrality of mitochondrial functions manifests in health and a broad spectrum of diseases and aging.” Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/ewdAfMhe
Cell's fifth focus issue celebrating the journal's 50th anniversary expands upon its first anniversary focus issue on cell biology by directing our focus toward the future of the field. “Cell biology is so entwined with the origin of Cell and is growing in such exciting directions that we couldn’t stop with one 50th anniversary focus on the area,” says the Cell editorial team. “There are too many questions to ask.” This issue showcases areas where cell biology is forging ahead, including fresh looks at mitochondria and the concept of cell state alongside ideas about how to train the next generation of researchers. Learn about the people, technologies, and research driving the field of cell biology into the future. Explore the issue: https://lnkd.in/gtZU2iw9 #50YearsofCell
