We believe that all children have a fundamental right to an excellent education.

About us

Alpha Public Schools is a network of public charter TK-12 schools that aims to put scholars on the path to college success – and keep them there. All Alpha students will develop not only the knowledge, but also the skills and character traits they will need to succeed in college and career. Founded in 2010 by a dedicated, experienced team that has achieved extraordinary academic results with students in other under-resourced communities, Alpha was created in response to overwhelming community and parent demand in the San Francisco Bay Area. In fall 2012, we opened our first school, Alpha: Blanca Alvarado School in east San Jose, California. The school serves grades 5-8. In fall 2014, we opened our second school, Alpha: Jose Hernandez School, and in 2015 we opened our first high school, Alpha: Cindy Avitia High School. In 2016, we joined forces with the highly acclaimed Cornerstone Academy that serves grades K-8. At the beginning of 2019, we started building out the elementary grades at both Alpha: Blanca Alvarado and Alpha: Jose Hernandez, with the goal of them growing into TK-8 schools in the future. Alpha is driven by our mission, vision and core beliefs- that all students can learn, that our scholars belong in college, and that student growth is a reflection of the teacher’s practice. Alpha is fiercely entrepreneurial and we are focused on supporting our scholars as they grow into self-reliant leaders who will achieve success in their school, college, and career. We're committed to finding educators who value and amplify the diverse experiences of our staff and scholars and their families, and who care deeply about addressing the inequities that exist in education.

“I want to be an astronaut... I look back at how I got there though and I can summarize it very well. A lot had to do with reading – it’s not being afraid to pick up a book and not putting it down until you finish it. That’s the recommendation I have for you: read some more, you’re getting a free book here today so make sure you read that one” -José Hernández We had the incredible honor of hosting former astronaut, José Hernández on our campus! 🐧 Gordon Philanthropies, Inc. and Reaching for the Stars Children's Foundation generously donated backpacks for every student, along with over 6,000 engaging books for our students to read! 📚 Moments like these remind us of the impact we can make when we work together to help shape the future of our students. Here’s to fostering a love for reading, curiosity, resilience, and the belief that our students can aim high and reach for the stars! 💫 A special thank you to our partners Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley for being in attendance as well as Trustee Grace Mah, Trustee Raeena Lari, and San José City Council D5 staff. Alpha Public Schools recently co-sponsored and participated in the Voter Block Party, an event dedicated to supporting the community by providing essential resources on voter education and registration. Thank you to our Community Organizer, Elizabeth Marquez Bernardino, whose efforts ensured that Alpha Public Schools could co-sponsor the event and shared her Local Voter Guide with community members. Also, special thanks to Nelly Gutierrez and Alejandra Soto for dedicating their time. With the election just days away, we aim to encourage families to become informed about their districts and representatives.

We are proud to share that Alpha: Blanca Alvarado School has been approved for a five-year charter renewal! Alum Rock Union School District’s board voted on September 26 to approve the school's renewal. This decision is the result of so much hard work by the Blanca team over the last seven years - students, staff, leadership, and families have invested deeply in our mission and community. In the heart of our school’s renewal, the community came together in a powerful display of unity and hope. The photos capture something more than just faces—they reflect the beauty of connection, the strength of collective belief, and the unwavering support for the school’s future. Each photo tells a story of resilience, where challenges are met with compassion and aspiration. Together, they transform the renewal into more than just a process—it becomes a celebration of the enduring spirit of community. We are so grateful to the hard work of the school staff, the renewal core team, our advocacy team, and our parent leaders who have been putting time and energy into this process for many months now. It was wonderful to see so many folks from our other campuses showing up to support our Blanca teammates. This win is the result of us truly living the value One Team, One Purpose!

I feel incredibly welcomed at Alpha and am learning a great deal from everyone here.” Flor is passionate about teaching kids and loves incorporating fun, laughter, and joy into learning. “It’s what excites me the most about this profession.” “My teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of persistence and individualized learning. I believe in never giving up hope on a student’s ability to learn and understand that each child has their own unique pace of learning.” We're so excited that you're part of the Alpha community, Flor!

Today at Alpha: Blanca Alvarado, students kicked off the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month by learning five different Latin dance styles! It was an incredible opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the rich cultural traditions of the Latin community, while also having a blast together. A huge thank you to the amazing team who organized this event: Kelsey Wilk- MFA Theatre Education, Nelly Gutierrez, Jin Yun, and Chris Cordoni, you truly brought our community together in such a meaningful way. The energy was contagious, and it was a beautiful reminder of how our core value of joy can be woven into everything we do. From salsa to cumbia, the smiles, laughter, and pure enjoyment in the room were a testament to the power of celebrating our diverse cultures. 🌍💙 Grateful for moments like these that bring us closer as a community! #HispanicHeritageMonth #CultureAndJoy #Community #DiversityMatters
