Aloha United Way is working to help our community become stronger, more resilient, and better for everyone.

About us

Our Mission Aloha United Way brings resources, organizations and people together to advance the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community. Our Roots Aloha United Way was originally established by Frank C. Atherton as the United Welfare Fund, under the Chamber of Commerce, in 1919 to create a more efficient way of distributing charitable giving. As Hawaii has changed and evolved over the last 100 years, so has our mission and work.

Great way to tell the ALICE story - 3 maps - by Noah Sheidlower and Juliana Kaplan in Business Insider. Looking at the change in income status from 2010 to 2021, the maps show poverty has not changed much and the number of wealthier families (Above ALICE Threshold) has mostly decreased (except states with influx during the pandemic). But ALICE - Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed - households that have increased! This group that hasn't even had a name until now, but has been the fastest growing. #UnitedForALICE https://lnkd.in/e4fUcuDe

More and more Americans are becoming 'ALICEs.' They can't afford rent and groceries but are falling through the cracks in the country's safety net.

A warm mahalo to First Hawaiian Bank employees for their generous donation of $241,102 to Aloha United Way through the 2023 Workplace Giving Campaign! This gift makes a tangible difference, providing essential resources such as food, shelter, education access, medicine, and childcare to local neighbors and families. AUW has been the connector, partner and resource our community relies on and First Hawaiian Bank has actively supported the communities we serve. The support doesn't stop there, we are so grateful for their support as a sponsor of Women United's upcoming Chocolate, Champagne, and Couture For-A-Cause (C4) fundraising event. C4 raises money that will be awarded to local nonprofit organizations serving women and children in need on O‛ahu.

Yesterday's ALICE convening brought together 17 diverse agencies deeply engaged in the ALICE cohort. These agencies, represented by five dedicated huis, convene regularly to collaboratively strategize on supporting ALICE families (households). In our latest gathering, all agencies in attendance, we explored pressing matters, particularly the ongoing legislative landscape. Our discussions emphasized the critical need to advocate for bills aligned with high-priority issues for ALICE, including tax credits, paid family leave, childcare, and social services. As we continue to support advocacy efforts, we urge and encourage our community to be involved. Advocacy is still in full swing, stay informed and join the movement by signing up for our advocacy newsletter, where you'll receive updates on our initiative and opportunities to be heard. https://lnkd.in/gaQTHYAq Thank you for coming together to make an impact - • HCF • Hawaii Appleseed • Catholic Charities • Hawaii Children's Action Network • Family Promise of Hawaii • Partners in Development Foundation • Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement • Hawaii HomeOwnership Center • Parents and Children Together • RYSE • Goodwill Industries • Waikiki Community Center • Legal Aid Society of Hawaii • Hawaiian Community Assets • Feed the Hunger Fund • INPEACE • Kokua Kalihi Valley
