Protecting the only remaining Tamal Húye (Coast Miwok) built home on ancestral homelands
About us
Alliance for Felix Cove utilizes both Defend and Decolonize strategies to protect the only remaining Tamal Húye (Coast Miwok) built home on ancestral homelands on Calupetamal now known as the Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS) and to Decolonize the identify and history of Calupetamal from the European and Euro-American ranching history of PRNS. The Felix family, a Tamal Húye family, lived at Point Reyes Peninsula since time immemorial and the cove, now named Laird’s Landing since the Mexican era of California (1822-1848). Laird’s Landing is on the western shores of Tomales Bay which is a 90 minute drive north from San Francisco in Marin County. Nineteenth century dairy ranchers, the Laird’s, used the road that leads to the cove to access Tomales Bay to load dairy products (e.g., cheese and butter) for shipment to San Francisco. According to the Felix family, they lived at the cove from early 1800s. At least four generations of the Felix family lived at the cove until unjustly evicted by white ranchers in the 1950s.

Ever spot a tiny home woven from spiderwebs and plant fluff? Finding this tiny, delicate Hummingbird nest is like uncovering a magical treasure. We are grateful for the beauty of our relatives who continue to know this world and the stories of our ancestors. #relatives #nature #gifts

Did you know there's a story behind the name Felix Cove? Our family's roots in the beautiful coastal haven now named Felix Cove trace back to a love story between our great-great-grandparents, Manong Domingo Felix and Euphrasia. Manong Domingo, born in Manila, met and married Euphrasia during the Mexican era of California's history in San Francisco, then known as Yerba Buena. Their journey brought them back to Tamal-liwa, where they established Felix Cove and Marshall Beach as treasured family sites for their children, grandchildren, and descendants. While our knowledge of Domingo is limited, we know he built a life with the Támal-ko community at the bay. This enduring love story has become a cherished part of our family's legacy, honoring our Filipino and Coast Miwok heritage. Join us in celebrating the stories and history that shape our community and honor our ancestors. ❤️ #FelixCove #FamilyHistory #Támal-ko
