A new immersive piece of theater hits Lower Manhattan in the form of "Life and Trust," the latest from the team behind "Sleep No More," Emursive Productions. This exciting show, which takes place in a landmarked building at 6 Hanover St, is part of a growing influx of arts and culture programming to the neighborhood. BIDs, or "multifaceted organizations that handle everything from providing support for area businesses to beautifying their neighborhoods," are a vital, unique part of the New York City ecosystem. Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lappin spoke to Commercial Observer about the work our BID has been up to in this year, including community-focused placemaking initiatives, horticulture and street beautification projects, arts and culture events and much more. In the last year alone, Lower Manhattan's already-impressive arts and culture scene has flourished tenfold, thanks to the additions of the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC), Mercer Labs and Emursive Productions’s upcoming theatrical production, "Life and Trust." Recognizing the social and economic impact arts spaces and cultural institutions have on a neighborhood is essential, according to Jessica Lappin, President of the Downtown Alliance. In the fall of 2023, the Downtown Alliance announced our "Filmmaker in Chief" initiative, a unique creative residency that would award a $50,000 grant and two months of paid housing to a filmmaker to shoot, edit and produce a short film in Lower Manhattan. After an incredibly competitive judging process, and among a pool of 432 applicants, a jury of Lower Manhattan cultural leaders ultimately selected Andrew and Remy Neymarc of Neymarc Visuals after reviewing their film treatment “Dreamscape.” As production on "Dreamscape" begins in earnest in the neighborhood, we caught up with the duo to talk about their start in filmmaking, what it’s like working together as brothers and their favorite filmmakers right now:
