We'd like to wish a happy second anniversary to Commissioner Fowler. Governor Ivey appointed Commissioner Fowler in an acting capacity two years ago today. The appointment became permanent a few months later. In his time as commissioner, he has expanded the department's efforts to educate Alabama consumers about insurance issues and ways the department can help them. The Commissioner also established the Office of Risk and Resilience to promote a healthy and stable insurance market in Alabama, as well as serving as co-chair of the Alabama Resilience Council, which was created by Governor Ivey. Happy anniversary, boss. We're proud to work with you.

The Strengthen Alabama Homes program is not only building a more resilient Alabama one roof at a time, but it is also serving as a model for other states. Read more about how SAH is leading a nationwide movement to build homes that better withstand Mother Nature's wrath. Today, the ALDOI's summer intern class toured the Capitol to get a close-up look at the beating heart of state government, where each day members of the executive branch manage the needs of the state of Alabama and its citizens. The Capitol is most famously known for being the place where the Office of the Governor resides, and Governor Kay Ivey graciously took a few moments to meet with the class. We'd like to thank Gov. Ivey for her time and generosity. It was truly a memorable day for the students.

Alabama Insurance Commissioner Mark Fowler recently met with US Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) to talk about resilience, the ALDOI’s Strengthen Alabama Homes program, and ways the Department of Insurance is working to keep Alabama the most fortified state in the country. Senator Britt, a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has been both a strong and outspoken supporter of resilience in Alabama and a leader on insurance matters on Capitol Hill, championing key bills. The meeting was part of the NAIC’s Washington Fly-In, giving regulators to the chance to discuss efforts to help constituents as well as advocate for state insurance priorities, with Alabama’s congressional delegation. We thank Senator Britt for her continued support of the department and in particular, her support for Strengthen Alabama Homes, which to date has put 7,200 Fortified roofs on homes across Alabama.
