We couldn’t be more thrilled to share that we have once again been included in AN Interior’s Top 50 Architects and Designers for 2024. Thank you so much to the editors of AN Interior and The Architect's Newspaper for your continued support of our studio! It’s an honor to share this accolade with such great company. This couldn’t have been possible without our wonderful clients, collaborators and most importantly, the ALA team. Founded by Alda Ly, we are an architecture & interior design firm emphasizing deep listening and hands-on collaboration.
About us
Formerly known as Alda Ly Architecture, ALA Studio is a full service architecture and interior design firm that emphasizes deep listening and hands-on collaboration with clients throughout the design process, treating each project as an opportunity to foster a client’s creativity. Led by a desire to create comfortable and healthy environments, ALA offers custom solutions that focus on the quality of the end user’s experience. The New York City-based studio serves clients who are looking to rethink traditional healthcare, retail, office, hospitality and cultural spaces, whether they be established organizations or startups and entrepreneurs. Clients include Bloomberg, Princeton University, Christian Louboutin, Red Bull, Rent the Runway, The Wing, and women’s healthcare platform Tia. While ALA’s projects range in scale and type, they all share ALA’s minimalist and playful design vocabulary, and seamlessly combine comfort, wellness, smart planning and fresh interior design concepts. Because the studio often gives form to services and business models that have few spatial precedents, ALA’s process begins with a discovery phase in which an organization’s founders, team members, and users share their individual experiences, desires and needs. ALA helps a client articulate what they need and, together, identifies challenges to be addressed through design. ALA’s ethnographic research thus becomes the basis of programming and functionality, and later informs concepts for layouts and finishes. Founded by Alda Ly in 2017, ALA is a certified Minority & Woman-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) in NYC. ALA has been featured nationally and internationally in publications such as Metropolis, Contract, Interior Design, and Wallpaper*, and has received awards from Fast Company, Healthcare Design & Interior Design.

One of the most important parts of our work is research, and we're hoping our LinkedIn network can help us find some subjects for our current project. We're looking to speak with people (all genders) who are considering, or have had, a hair transplant or PRP hair growth treatments, and we'd love to schedule this ASAP. There will be a honorarium as a token of our appreciation for your time. Please DM us if you are interested or have any questions! Your participation is strictly confidential. Thanks!

We’re thrilled to finally share a project that’s been near and dear to us for the past THREE years! Please say hello to Anna Jóna. Located on the ground floor of a historic building in Reykjavík, Iceland, this all-day cafe and cinema was created as a place to gather and share. Fitting in its warmth and brightness, the project is an ode to the owner’s late mother, Anna Jóna Thorleifsson, an Icelandic artist and costume maker. The space’s warm palette is inspired by a figurative painting by Anna Jóna as well as the owner’s own memories of her. Every detail was chosen for a specific purpose, whether that be to add softness, spark joy, or make work more enjoyable. We organized the space around inclusive design principles, which were integral to the project, to increase the sense of belonging for all. This project came to us in the spring of 2021 and provided a sense of hope and creative inspiration during a time when there was a lot of mid-pandemic heaviness. Working on it with the owner Haraldur Thorleifsson brought such joy and pleasure to us in that time of uncertainty. Learn more about the project on our website! https://lnkd.in/enxh8dw9 Thanks to our team: Marissa Feddema, Tania C., Talitha Liu, Rachel Rockford, Shixa P. and our partners: Kenny Lao Sara McElroy 📸: Brooke Holm

We love when we get to work with other female-founded teams on a project, and it’s the cherry on top when the client is also a woman-owned business. HealthyBaby, the developmental health-focused baby care company, was one such project. We partnered with Sighte Studio, LLC and Aerial Design and Build, both women-owned and led businesses, to create a showroom and experiential playspace for the HealthyBaby brand that supports their mission of protecting while enriching. The design was inspired by the idea of the nest as a space that nurtures and supports growth, and was implemented through a series of nested environments. Sighte Studio, our lighting consultant, helped us ensure that the space was lit warmly for a welcoming glow throughout while appropriately highlighting product displays, and Aerial, our general contractor, helped us realize all the custom elements and millwork that we designed to create the various “nests”. Check out our website for more photos of the project! https://lnkd.in/eBb4wyK4 #womeninarchitecture #womenindesign #interiordesign #architecture #womenshistorymonth

This International Women’s Day, we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate our talented all women team who do such incredible work each and every day, and the creativity, dedication, empathy and joy they bring to all of our projects and our office. Throughout this #womenshistorymonth, we’ll be featuring each member of our team and learning a bit more about their journey and what inspires them. We’re also excited to be highlighting some amazing women-owned/founded/led businesses, as well as all-women teams that we’ve worked with that we’re fortunate to call clients, collaborators and friends. #internationalwomensday #internationalwomensday2024 #IWD2024 #womeninarchitecture #womenindesign #interiordesign #architecture

We have exciting news. We’re changing our name from Alda Ly Architecture to ALA Studio! This change emphasizes that the firm Alda founded six years ago is bigger than just one person – it’s thriving because of the amazing team driving its success. As our name evolved to reflect the collaborative teamwork that we love, so did our brand identity. We worked with our talented friends at Once–Future Office on the renaming and branding. From Once-Future: "The brand identity balances the firm’s friendly approach with its quality product, drawing inspiration from many of the playful yet refined forms and colors in their architecture, interiors, and furniture. The impactful logomark, which plays with form and counterform, was designed to be flexible and active in space, shifting and stretching across axes to provide moments of expression within the system." #alastudio #newname
