About us

The Akron Municipal Court serves the cities of Akron and Fairlawn; the townships of Bath, Richfield and Springfield; the Villages of Lakemore and Richfield; and that part of Mogadore in Summit County, Ohio. The Akron Municipal Court has jurisdiction in misdemeanor criminal cases where the maximum sentence is one year in jail and a fine of not more than $2,500.00. The Akron Municipal Court also handles the initial stages of felony proceedings prior to trial. In civil matters, this jurisdiction is limited to cases where the monetary claim requested by either party is not more than $15,000. Today is National Intern Day, which is marked annually on the last Thursday of July. We celebrated these three individuals today (from left to right): Nick, Alazha and Desianique. Nick and Alazha are Court Runners/Interns while Desianique is a Law Clerk joining us this summer from University of Cincinnati’s College of Law. Not pictured are two additional amazing Interns: Camille and Francesca.

Here at the Akron Municipal Court, we know that Court Runners are an integral part of operations management. These positions are often held by students or recent graduates. They transport files to-and-from courtrooms and assist with other projects as well. We want to give everyone an opportunity to get to know our four Court runners, including their interests, hobbies and career aspirations. We appreciate all you do here, Ala'Zha, Kaitlin, Camille and Nick!

The Akron Municipal Court and other agencies are partnering for “Summit County Fugitive Safe Surrender” which will take place August 7-10, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at The House of The Lord (1650 Diagonal Road in Akron). This is the location where fugitives can safely turn themselves in. Those looking for services and assistance should arrive prior to 4:00 p.m. each day to allow for sufficient processing time. While it’s not an amnesty program, Summit County Fugitive Safe Surrender grants people with outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants (including traffic violations) a chance to resolve those issues in a community-based setting. This program offers an opportunity for individuals who have a warrant or license forfeiture to surrender in a safe environment. Pursuing a safe surrender helps reduce risk of the fugitive, the law-enforcement officers who pursue them and the neighborhoods that harbor them. This also clears judicial dockets which helps serve the community. The last event of this nature took place in June 2014 at the House of the Lord. The six Akron Municipal Court Judges are in support of Fugitive Safe Surrender: Administrative/Presiding Judge Annalisa S. Williams, Judge Jerry Larson, Judge Jon Oldham, Judge Ron Cable, Judge Nicole Walker and Judge David Hamilton. Questions about the event can be answered by visiting https://lnkd.in/dK5FZd22 or by calling (330) 643-2114.

Today, Judge David Hamilton and his team led a fantastic Compassion, Opportunity, Mentoring, Purpose, Achievement, Success, Stepping forward (COMPASS) Program session. The guest speaker was Ray Greene who serves as The Freedom BLOC's Executive Director. We want to thank Adam and Kendra for presenting a custom COMPASS tumbler to Judge Hamilton! What an amazing and beautiful creation! Learn more about COMPASS, which was launched in 2020 by Judge Hamilton, here: https://lnkd.in/genbExvA
