Seniority level is more than just a number of years working for the company - it symbolizes the depth of loyalty and dedication the employee has towards their employer and job. airBaltic takes pride in being among the rare employers in Latvia, with a seniority level that extends to an impressive 6 years. Remarkably, 7 employees have been part of the company since its establishment in 1995. This year, our Safety Manager and captain Jānis Krištops celebrates a remarkable milestone of 16 years with the company. He reflects on the unique experience of working in such a relatively young industry that has demonstrated rapid growth over the years.   “The dream of flying has been with me since my school days. Early on, I set my sights on an aviation career, but when it came time to decide on my further education, the period was filled with uncertainty. However, anyone with a Plan A needs a Plan B — I chose to study in another field, security, continued working, and always kept the dream of aviation in mind.   As soon as circumstances allowed, I immediately began studying to become a pilot. In 2009, I started working at airBaltic as a co-pilot on the Fokker F50—it was a very interesting and, for its time, very modern aircraft with many innovative technological solutions that have been inherited and further developed to this day. With this aircraft, I took my first steps in commercial aviation and grew together with the company and its fleet.   The company appreciated my skills, energy, and results, allowing me to train on the Dash Q400 aircraft and become a captain. During that time, a vacancy was also announced in the Safety Management department. Here, I experienced another major milestone—participating in the process of introducing a new aircraft type into the airline.   Currently, I oversee team members from both flying and non-flying divisions, conduct a thorough analysis of all flight data, make forecasts, and analyze risks, as well as provide recommendations for risk mitigation.”   He adds that working at airBaltic carries a sense of pride: "A well-developed airport with a strong airline signifies a respectable country. It serves as a crucial strategic asset, facilitating convenient travel, fostering business development, and connecting the nation with the rest of the world."

Alla Grante’s remarkable 18-year career with airBaltic is celebrated on the July page of the 2024 airBaltic Calendar. Her journey in aviation began in childhood, inspired by her father, an avionics engineer. Early visits to the airport and exposure to the world of flying set the stage for her future in the industry. Starting in the Administration division, Alla soon realized her passion lay in the operational side of the business. A year into her role, she took the opportunity to become a Flight Support Specialist, recognizing it as her ideal position. Since then, she has witnessed and contributed to the significant growth and evolution of the Flight Operations Support team. Now, as the Flight Operations Support Manager, Alla continues to find joy and fulfillment in her work. Alla also embraced airBaltic’s innovative Office in the Sky program, which allows office employees to train as cabin crew members. Over the past year and a half, this experience has added a new dimension to her career, enriching her understanding of the airline’s operations. Surrounded by a team of passionate, energetic colleagues, Alla finds the work both demanding and exhilarating. “The dynamic environment and the sense of adventure make every day exciting,” she says. “It’s a privilege to work with such a dedicated team who share a love for aviation.” Alla’s story highlights the culture of diversity, innovation, and excellence that makes airBaltic more than just a workplace — it’s a community where dreams take flight. #womeninaviation #lifeatairbaltic
