Today marks the 80th anniversary to one of the largest invasion operations in world history. During the D-Day attack, over 4,000 soldiers were killed along with thousands more injured or missing but ended with the overtaking of the Normandy beach front, the liberation of France, and what is said to be "the beginning of the end" to WWII. Today we recognize the bravery and sacrifice that was displayed 80 years ago.

Recently members of our team, Director of Training Zac Webster and future Director of Training Brody Heggerston, completed contract training for our neighbors to the north—De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited. All of which, could not have been accomplished without our competent maintenance and dispatch staff. De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited recently sent down Paul Deplaedt, and Rodger Brndjar, two skilled pilots to Air Cargo Carriers’ Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI to obtain the illustrious SD3 type-rating. Shorts Brothers PLC, or known more commonly as “Shorts”, which was founded in 1908, was a primarily government owned aerospace company that was based in Northern Ireland until being bought by Bombardier in 1989. After Bombardier, the owners of the Shorts Aircraft then became Spirit AeroSystems and Viking Air, and now today the Shorts is under the umbrella of De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, Limited. De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited has an iconic fleet, and they own and operate aircraft such as the DHC-2 Beaver, DHC-3 Otter, DHC-4 Caribou, DHC-5 Buffalo, DHC-6 Twin Otter, DHC-7 Dash 7, DHC-8 Dash 8 and the SD3-60 Sherpa. Air Cargo Carriers is the largest civilian operator of Shorts Aircraft worldwide. ACC owns and operates over 30 Shorts 360s in our fleet. Our Training Department assists government agencies and other civilian shorts operators all over the world with their training needs. It was an absolute pleasure training these individuals, and as a result, it was a great reminder that we all must work together in the Shorts community and will continue to assist De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited in whatever ways we can.

Members of our Maintenance and HR team traveled to Fox Valley Technical College in Oshkosh, WI last week to discuss future career opportunities for A&P Mechanics. Our maintenance team, a critical component of our operational success at ACC, was excited to network with students who aspire to hold future careers in aviation maintenance. These students were enthusiastic about the potential to put their new mechanic certificates to work with the ACC Shorts 360s, with our CONUS and OCONUS operations.
