Approximately a year ago, we took our AINA MOMONA Moloka’i crew to visit the incredible Auwahi Forest Restoration Program on Maui. We learned so much and were deeply inspired their team’s commitment to native forest restoration. Bonded by our commitment to ‘āina, we humbly submitted a request to Senator Brian Schatz for funding for both programs. We were overjoyed to learn this week that our request was funded! We are so blessed at ‘Āina Momona, and we are so grateful to be able to share our success to uplift communities and restore ‘āina across Hawai’i. Mahalo Senator Schatz for seeing us and supporting us! 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 (Photo of Uncle Walter in the Auwahi Forest Preserve on Maui.)

About us
‘Āina Momona (Hawaiian for the fertile or rich land) is a Native Hawaiian 501(c)(3) organization proudly founded by Walter Ritte for the purpose of achieving environmental health and sustainability through restoring social justice and Hawaiian sovereignty. We are led by a board of exceptional Native Hawaiians that support the critical work of our talented staff who work in grassroots communities to restore fragile ecosystems, promote cultural rights and practices, enhance community well-being, and advocate for native rights and social justice. ‘Āina Momona has four primary program areas that the organization focuses on: ‘Āina (land and environmental health), ‘Ai (food and agriculture), Wai (water) and Ea (sovereign, resistance and social justice).

Our executive director and founder Walter Ritte, along with board members kuualoha hoomanawanui and Trisha Kehaulani Watson-Sproat, visited with Na Aikane in West Maui yesterday. Their founder Keeaumoku Kapu has been a leader in Lahaina for many years. His leadership in the wake of the wildfires has been extraordinary and inspiring. AINA MOMONA is very proud to be a supporter of the work they are doing and we are dedicated to continuing to support Keeaumoku in his work to restore Lahaina and its cultural resources. #ainamomona #hawaii #maui #mauistrong #naaikane #indigenousleadership #community #givingtuesday #resilience
