Working to end the HIV epidemic in the United States through strategic grant-making, capacity building and policy.
About us
AIDS United is singularly focused on ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. During our almost 30-year history, we have changed and grown the funding landscape for HIV and transformed the policy environment. To date we have directly funded more than $98 million to local communities and have leveraged more than $115 million in additional support for programs that include access to care for people living with HIV, capacity building for community-based organizations, HIV prevention, advocacy, syringe access, and more. Through our Public Policy Committee, we’ve built the largest and strongest coalition of HIV-focused organizations working at the community level. Our coalition works together every day to ensure national and local policies reflect local realities and support an effective response to the end of AIDS.

Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) passed away on July 19, 2024. She leaves behind a mountain of advocacy work, often inspired by her religious dedication. An early advocate for LGBTQ rights, Jackson Lee was a key figure in launching the U=U National Task Force and ensuring people living with and susceptible to HIV were never left out of the equation. “Collectively, us here at AIDS United mourn her loss,” Carl Baloney Jr., Vice President for Public Affairs & Chief Policy Officer, says. “She had always been a major advocate for HIV equity and a great partner for our organization. We thank her for never leaving HIV out of any discussion on public health. She knew the risks if that funding were stalled or cut entirely. We are grateful for her advocacy and thinking of her family and friends in this time.” Read more about her meaningful impact in our recent blog post: https://lnkd.in/e8RTDX3U

🔊 Let's continue to raise our voices and advocate for millions of people living with and vulnerable to HIV. 🚨 Urgent: House Republicans have proposed a 2025 spending bill that could have a devastating impact on federal HIV programs, placing millions at risk. Take Action: Tell Congress to reject the cuts to HIV funding and support an increase in federal HIV funding. 🔗 Action Link: https://lnkd.in/eYDg4EEh (https://lnkd.in/eYDg4EEh) #endtheHIVepidemic #hivaids #hivfunding #hivadvocacy
🚨 Action Alert: Some of our most essential federal HIV programs are in grave danger. Again House Republicans just put forward a 2025 spending bill that would eliminate any chance we have of ending the #HIV epidemic by 2030, dismantling our federal HIV response and placing millions of people living with and vulnerable to HIV at significant risk. If passed, this spending bill would slash at least $524 million in spending on federal HIV programs We cannot end the HIV epidemic in the United States without this funding. We can make a difference, but Congress needs to hear from you. Take Action: Tell Congress to reject the cuts to HIV funding proposed by House Republicans and support a bipartisan funding package in the Senate that increases federal HIV funding and allows us to continue our work supporting people living with and vulnerable to HIV! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eYDg4EEh

AIDS United Staff and Board of Trustees traveled to Munich this week for the International AIDS Conference (IAS), presented by the International AIDS Society. The IAS has been at the center of the HIV response since 1985, bringing about global solidarity. IAS reminds us that progress happens when science, policy, and activism come together, domestically or internationally. We’ll have lots to share #AIDS2024 over the course of the week, but check out in real time how the #Ateam is in it, on it, and doing it globally. #EndingtheEpidemics #HIVadvocacy #HIVeducation

Throughout the months of July and August, in commemoration of the continued celebration of Pride and Black Music Month, AIDS United wants to show our community – particularly people living with HIV/AIDS, advocates, policymakers, and others within the AIDS United network – unique ways to spread HIV prevention messages through music. Our Summer Music series will highlight two amazing DJs over four music sessions. We hope these sessions will give you time to breathe and enjoy good tunes. We kick off with @thesanginDJ this Wednesday. Be sure to tune in! While listening, don't forget to visit takemehome.org to order your at home HIV test and visit the #stophivtogether to learn more about what you can do to help end the HIV epidemic.

Today, July 21st, marks Zero HIV Stigma Day, a crucial opportunity to come together and challenge the impact of HIV stigma. This observance unites people, communities, and entire countries to raise awareness and take action against HIV stigma, which perpetuates inequalities and amplifies the HIV epidemic. Join us in supporting a world free from stigmatization by accessing our Let’s Stop HIV Together: HIV Stigma link below. Together, let's create a more compassionate and inclusive society for all.
