With guest speakers and panelists from across the housing community and political spectrum, last week’s 2024 Affordable Housing Symposium showcased the growing and broad-based support for expanding and strengthening the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. Symposium participants heard remarks from speakers including Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Todd Young (R-IN) and Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL-16) and Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), and Biden Administration officials, including Siobhan Kelly, Associate Director, Federal Housing Finance Agency’s Office of Multifamily Policy and Analytics, and Aaron Shroyer, Housing Lead, National Economic Council in The White House.   Attendees also heard updates from congressional staff representing members on key House and Senate committees, and insights from industry leaders and advocates about the latest issues impacting the Housing Credit.   Thank you to everyone who joined us in Washington, DC, for the Symposium, participated in congressional meetings and contributed to our advocacy efforts. Working together, we’ll continue to advocate for a stronger Housing Credit that is urgently needed to create even more affordable homes and lower costs for America’s cost-burdened renters. Thanks to our friends at Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition for hosting a wonderful congressional networking reception last night. We enjoyed chatting with colleagues, and ASL Board Chairman Ike Gulas especially appreciated chatting about affordable senior housing with Senator Susan Collins of Maine.

Thank you Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition and Housing Advisory Group for co-hosting yesterdays #AffordableHousingSymposium on Capitol Hill, as well as Siobhan Kelly for our panel discussion. Today, I had the opportunity to meet with the offices of Senators Jack Reed (D-RI), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), urging them to to not only support the Tax Relief for American Families Bill, but push senate leadership to take it to the floor for a vote. The bipartisan bill includes provisions that expand the #LIHTC and reinstates the Child Tax Credit.

It was great to lead the California team(Beth Mullen, Ronne Thielen, Beth Southorn and Sara Williams of Century Housing) to meetings on the Hill to press for #AffordableHousing, #LIHTC #HousingCredit and the #AHCIA as part of the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition / Housing Advisory Group annual Housing Symposium Hill Day.
