It's time we talk away the dark. Suicide is a topic that hides in the shadows. All too often it goes unaddressed, even when we may sense someone is struggling. It’s time we shed some light on this leading cause of death. In our brand new national public service announcement, we highlight some of the common warning signs for suicide and encourage you to start an open and honest conversation with someone you care about, and connect those at risk to help. Today begins National Primary Care Week! There is a critical shortage of behavioral health providers in the U.S. Through our public policy priority focused on access to care and services, we want to: 🏘️ Address provider shortages in underserved areas, including in rural communities and incarcerated populations, through loan forgiveness and other financial incentives 🔃 Expand the behavioral health workforce by promoting access to peer support specialists and properly trained and supervised para-professionals who can provide support for suicide-focused care 💬 Coordinate communication between stakeholders to leverage existing federal and state scholarships and related programs 📈 Increase access to clinical supervisors, training credentials, and peer support certification programs 🤝 Expand primary care and behavioral health integration, including through the Collaborative Care Model and the development of learning collaborative partnerships Learn more #AFSPadvocacy:
