By 2035, the UK plans to boost solar capacity nearly fivefold to 70 gigawatts (GW). Leading this shift is Longfield Solar Farm — set to be the UK’s largest and one of Europe's biggest solar farms. We’re proud to play a crucial role in this record-breaking project, which will generate up to 500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, enough to power 96,000 homes. By delivering the environmental impact assessment (EIA), planning support and other permitting and environmental services, we’ve paved the way for Longfield to deliver 4.4 million tonnes of greenhouse gas reductions over its forty-year lifespan. Today’s People Spotlight features Jonathan Short, a technical director from our Water business in Basingstoke, United Kingdom. Jon’s lifelong love for the sea inspired him to study geography and oceanography — and ultimately led him to dedicate his career to protecting coastal environments. Today, he leads our coastal team, heading water resources projects across our UK and Ireland region. The Coverack Coastal Protection Project in Cornwall has been a highlight of his 16-year career with us. Faced with the imminent threat of coastal erosion on the only access road to a village, he and his team engaged with the local community to develop solutions that minimize disruptions, effectively utilize resources and increase the coast’s resilience to erosion. “Seeing the project through from start to finish has been incredibly rewarding for me,” he writes. “The project stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, showcasing how thoughtful engineering can make a tangible difference in people’s lives.”    Read more about his work: https://lnkd.in/eb7P9Hkm   #AECOM #AECOMVoices

We’re proud to share that we’ve been selected by the NYS Department of Transportation to serve as Lead Designer for the replacement of two bridges along the Bronx River Parkway in New York City. The project aims to replace both bridges, built in 1951 and nearing the end of their service lives, with modern structures to enhance safety and improve resiliency and traffic flow on a vital roadway serving tens of thousands of daily commuters. As the Lead Designer, we’ll provide comprehensive design and engineering services to support the replacement and widening of the Bronx River Parkway South and Northbound bridges. These new bridges will feature redundant steel girders, stainless-steel reinforced concrete decks, concrete piers and other enhancements to reduce long-term maintenance costs and strengthen resilience against the effects of climate change and severe weather. “As NYSDOT modernizes critical roadway infrastructure, we’re proud to support them with deep expertise in resilient design and state-of-the-art BIM modeling technologies to help ensure a timely delivery and lasting local benefits,” said Bane Gaiser, chief executive of our U.S. East and Latin America region. We’re proud to have been a part of the team delivering the upgraded Seghe Airfield in the Solomon Islands! 🌍✈️    We have been actively supporting the development of aviation infrastructure in the Solomon Islands since 2010. As the New Zealand Government's appointed designers and Engineers to Contract, we have led multiple aviation infrastructure programs, including the reconstruction and development of Munda International Airport, the Nusatupe Airport reconstruction, and the reconstruction of the Munda to Noro Road, which connects the airport to the seaport.    In 2018, we were engaged to investigate and design upgrades for new runways, taxiways, aprons, AGL systems, and terminal buildings for four regional airports at Choiseul Bay, Seghe, Santa Cruz, and Suavanao. The reconstructed airport at Choiseul Bay was opened last November. The Seghe reconstruction started in October last year and has been completed ahead of schedule, with the official opening on July 2nd.    The Seghe airfield upgrade is set to enhance connectivity for the Solomon Islands' provinces, bringing safer and more reliable air travel under all weather conditions. It will enable economic growth through tourism, improve access to essential services, and create broader development opportunities.
