As Los Angeles Metro seeks to transition its bus fleet to Zero Emission Buses (ZEB), our teams will provide the program management, design and engineering services to make that ambitious target possible. One of the largest electric bus programs in the nation, this initiative emphasizes reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality while delivering high-quality services for Los Angeles County’s residents and visitors. We’ll play a crucial role in the seamless and successful transition to zero-emission operations, advising on implementation strategies and delivering ZEB and charging infrastructure conceptual design, specification, and procurement support. “We are excited to partner with Metro on this critical program as they fast-track efforts to transition to zero emissions buses,” said Matthew Crane, chief executive of our U.S. West region. “This project will set a national example for how transit agencies can successfully transition to zero emissions buses and modernize their facilities to support this new fleet technology.” Discover how we’re #TransformingLA: https://lnkd.in/eAU-Suah #AECOM

We’re excited to announce the launch of the SMI Nature Risk Tool in partnership with the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI).   Developed by our teams as part of SMI’s Measurement and Transparency Task Force, this first-of-its-kind tool is designed to revolutionize how infrastructure projects are planned, financed, and delivered in response to the increased challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and social inequality. Powered by AI, it assesses the impact of new infrastructure developments on biodiversity and nature. This enables decision-makers to evaluate environmental dangers, from potential pollution issues to biodiversity loss or geological hazards.   “As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, this tool provides a much-needed solution for making informed decisions about nature and financial risks at the earliest stages of project development,” said Troy Rudd, our chief executive officer, and Head of SMI’s Measurement and Transparency Task Force. “We’re proud to support SMI in developing this first-of-its-kind resource to arm users with clear, actionable insight to drive nature-positive outcomes.”    To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/eJKQrJAr   #AECOM

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems are the backbone of water utility operations, helping to maintain public health, ensure compliance, and optimize operations. But with many SCADA systems showing their age, the risks of relying on outdated technology are growing. In this article, our digital solutions director, Derek Schell , PE, and our global water digital lead, Michael Karl, consider the challenges and opportunities that water utilities face when undertaking SCADA modernization projects. Discover why modernizing SCADA is not just about upgrading technology — it also requires focus on people, business and workflow processes, and aligning with the utilities’ priorities while achieving a long-term vision. When originally built in 1977, the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant had a capacity of 18 million gallons per day (MGD). After numerous expansions, its capacity has now reached 75 MGD — and is set to increase further still. Serving as the prime consultant on behalf of the City of Austin, we’ll provide an array of engineering services to improve the aging structure’s operational and environmental features by increasing the plant’s capacity to 100 MGD.  The upgrades will bolster the resiliency of the community’s wastewater infrastructure and include a flood wall to protect against 100-year floods in accordance with the National Weather Service’s historic Atlas 14 flood risk study. “As our industry’s leading Water consulting firm, we look forward to continuing our long-standing partnership with the City of Austin to ensure the Walnut Creek Expansion delivers state-of-the-art treatment capabilities to the local community,” said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of our global Water business.
