Flashback to one of My First #NIL Deals – 7 Years Ago! It’s wild to think that yesterday, IG reminded me of one of my earliest NIL campaigns with Snap Kitchen back in 2017! As I look back, I’m filled with gratitude for the journey that’s shaped my perspective and my passion for educating and protecting student-athletes and individuals in the ever-evolving NIL ecosystem through ADVANCE Back then, we didn’t have “Collectives” lol my path was built off of curiosity and hustle. It was a mix of entrepreneurial spirit, NIL activations, countless camps and clinics, all while balancing a full-time career at FS Investments before meeting Courtney Altemus. It’s been a ride and I’m proud to say it’s all contributed to the work I do today. 💼 From Student-Athlete to Entrepreneur At Cornell University, Immediately following my freshman year I started #908Storage. Fast forward to graduation, and I co-founded #StayCool which jumpstarted my passion for camps/clinics and speaking engagements. To date, I’ve led or hosted 5,000 sessions/activations. But here’s the kicker: most of this happened AFTER my football career ended. I couldn’t rely on being a Team Captain, First Team All-Ivy, or Player of the Week anymore. My NIL success came from authenticity, consistency, and a deep alignment of my skills and audience. Leveraging my Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) didn’t just bring financial rewards – it expanded my network, clarified my values, and deepened my understanding of marketing and branding. Why NIL is for Everyone – Not Just the Elites In conversations with high school and collegiate administrators, a common theme is, “NIL is only for the elites” or “We don’t need to educate everyone on NIL.”Respectfully, I completely disagree, and here’s why: 1. “NIL is the new way to teach Life Skills” – as Ashley Wechter puts it. Life Skills are essential behaviors, processes, and habits needed to manage life’s demands and challenges, often missing from traditional education. EVERYONE, not just athletes, deserves a relatable and practical way to develop these skills. 2. NIL gives athletes purpose beyond their sport. While some might prefer athletes to “shut up and dribble,” NIL offers a unique chance to explore dual identities, bridging the gap left by the lack of traditional internships or career development opportunities. NIL empowers athletes to grow as complete individuals, fostering self-awareness and easing the transition out of sport. YES, elites might get first dibs on collective money and national deals, but NIL is so much more! 🌟 After Reposting on IG… 1. People couldn’t resist pointing out my hair transformation 😅 lol 2.
