Arizona Highways Magazine is world-renowned for showcasing Arizona's beauty. But you might not know that it's part of the Arizona Department of Transportation. Or that it generates tens of millions of dollars annually in tourism-related revenue across the state. Or that it operates at no cost to taxpayers. Publisher Kelly Mero joins On the Road With ADOT this week to discuss the 100th birthday of Arizona Highways and how it continues promoting travel to and through the state of Arizona in this digital age. An event scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, is designed to help small businesses and firms qualifying for ADOT’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program compete for contracts in the transportation industry. With a theme of “Bridging Inclusive Growth,” the ADOT DBE & Small Business Conference will be held at the Delta Hotel in Mesa. It will feature extensive opportunities for networking, discussions with prime contractors, one-on-one appointments with buying agencies and prime contractors, educational breakout sessions, opportunities to learn about ADOT programs designed to help build businesses and much more. Join us for an opportunity to hear from prominent leaders in the transportation sector including ADOT’s Deputy Director Teresa Welborn, who will share their expertise and insights on current trends and future developments in the industry. This conference is designed to support disadvantaged business enterprises and small businesses, while welcoming participation from all businesses, public agencies, vendors and community partners interested in the transportation sector. The goal is to equip small businesses and those owned by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals with the tools and resources necessary to compete for federally funded transportation projects. For more information and to register, please visit the ADOT’s DBE Supportive Services Program website at azdot.gov/DBE.

The ADOT Motor Vehicle Division attended a Sensory Awareness Family Event (S.A.F.E) hosted by Trader Joe's with Gilbert, Arizona police and fire departments this week. They were able to provide education on the Blue Envelope Program and hand out Blue Envelopes to those who wanted them. Great work, ADOT MVD!
Morgan Henling and I had a great time supporting Gilbert Police Department's Sensory Awareness Family Event (S.A.F.E.) on Wednesday while also providing education on Arizona's Blue Envelope program.

Thanks to everyone who turned out Saturday for our National Cleanup Day event along Loop 202 in Tempe! This was a great chance for community members and ADOT staff to promote the Adopt a Highway program and how cleaner roadsides help keep Arizona grand. If you're interested in adopting a highway mile near you, please visit azdot.gov/adoptahighway.

Whether you're heading to the Sphere, catching a concert or trying your luck at the tables, Las Vegas is a draw for many Arizonans. But if your trip back falls on a busy travel weekend, your luck can run out approaching Kingman on southbound US 93. That's why we're so excited about a project underway to create a free-flowing interchange between US 93 and Interstate 40. This improvement will free drivers passing through Kingman from needing to negotiate Beale Street's traffic lights to reach I-40. And it will improve traffic flow for area residents as well. In this episode of On the Road With ADOT, we provides an update on this interchange project and other highway projects northwestern Arizona. The project that constructed Loop 303 interchanges at 43rd and 51st avenues near Interstate 17 in Phoenix has been named a top 12 finalist in the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition. This designation makes the $70 million Loop 303 project eligible for two different honors: the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award. The competition is sponsored by AASHTO, an association representing highway and transportation departments nationwide, as well as AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Through Oct. 29, you can vote once daily for the People’s Choice Award here: https://bit.ly/3AQdRUS ADOT partnered with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), the regional transportation planning agency, and city of Phoenix to accelerate construction of the Loop 303 bridges and ramps to address current and future traffic growth near the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plant in the north Valley. The interchanges were completed in September 2023, several years sooner than originally planned.

Farewell, summer travel season. It's been a blast. If you're like some Arizonans, you're already thinking about getting ways to escape the heat next summer. And for many of us, that thinking should include whether you have your Arizona Travel ID. That's why this episode of our podcast, On the Road With ADOT, features Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen. He explains that, come May 7, 2025, a form of identification like the Arizona Travel ID will be required for air travel. Please spend a few minutes listening to Eric chat with our host, Doug Nintzel, and you'll be better prepared for this major change in how we travel.
