Grandparent's day was this past Sunday. Happy Grandparent's day to all grandparents out there! On this post we wanted to highlight Debbie, Chris & Adrienne. They are birth grandparents and participate in the open adoption of their grandchildren. Below are some quotes from them about their relationship with their open adoption. 💜🌟 "The pictures say it all, we may be miles apart but Charlotte’s always in our minds and in our hearts. We always look forward to the times we can spend together" - Chris & Adrienne Thurlow ____ " I experienced two daughters faced with the decision of giving up a baby, through AFTH. They both absolutely made the right decision. For Kristen, I was there when Logan was born, and spent some time with him in the hospital, holding & loving on him. I am friends with his parents on Facebook, so I get to see his growth, their unbridled joy and every day fun. For Allison, I wasn't able to be there for the birth, since it was a C-Section, but I spent hours and hours holding and rocking Isaac in the hospital. In his case, I guess I was saying good bye, since his parents live further away, and do not have a Facebook presence. They do send pictures periodically, so I have got to see his growth, and how happy he is. Neither of my girls have any regrets regarding their decision. And since I am "Yammi" to five beautiful children, whom I get to share their lives with, I am complete. My heart is full, and I will always love those babies given to beautiful families that could give them what my girls could not at that time." - Birth grandmother, Debbie

“It is with a broken heart we share that Marilyn Rich, one of our longest employees passed away last Friday morning surrounded by family. Marilyn was a wealth of knowledge and passionate about her work with both adoptive and birth parents. She was a huge advocate for her clients and for open adoption, she helped many adoptees do searches and was able to reunite many adoptees with their birth families. She leaves a very big hole in the AFTH family as she has touched so many of our lives.” - Heidi Gonzalez, AFTH's Executive Director Marilyn was much more than just a coworker; she was a cherished member of our work family. Her dedication, kindness, and unwavering support touched all of our lives in profound ways. We will always remember her passion for helping others and the genuine compassion she showed to everyone around her. When you look up the meaning of social worker, it says “a person whose job is to help people” and that was simply who Marilyn was, someone who helped people in both her professional and personal life. All those who had the honor of knowing her were blessed by her presence and the positive impact she made in their lives. Our deepest sympathies go out to Marilyn’s loved ones. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in our hearts and her impact in our lives forever. Marilyn's Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 28th at 2pm at the Summersale Centennial Park (400 First Street, Summerdale, PA 17093). Dress casual and bring a chair. https://lnkd.in/eGNTD8as
