Cannes was a few weeks back, and while the fun-in-the-sun pictures and high-level summaries are nice, the event's fundamental purpose is to spread meaningful ideas within the marketing industry, and I think it's important to spread the ideas beyond these beach-side venues. Since no one wants to watch a whole video of a panel they didn't attend (TBH I would not), allow me to bring you some bite-sized highlights over the coming days. At this Wall Street Journal House event, Phillipa Leighton-Jones asked if most CMOs were aware they are blocking news, and I responded that no, they don't, and beyond that, most CEOs don't know it. And there are good reasons why CEOs should care about this.

Ten sources make their debut on this month’s chart: - American Patriot Daily News Network - Filter Magazine - Mid Hudson News - NBC Sports - Orlando Sentinel - RealClearWorld - Streets Blog - The Ohio Press Network - Vision Times - ZNetwork The Ad Fontes Media analyst team has now fully rated more than 78,000 individual articles from websites across the political spectrum. They spend dozens of hours each week reading these articles and analyzing them for their bias and reliability. Each piece of content is rated by at least three trained analysts — one analyst is right leaning politically, one is left leaning, and one is center. We believe it’s important to have analysts representing various political opinions in order to mitigate our own biases as a company when we rate news and news-like content. Do these analysts agree on politics? Definitely not, and that’s a good thing, we believe. Do they always agree on the reliability or bias of a particular piece of content? Again, no. But by working together in shifts, they are able to share their thoughts on factors related to bias and reliability, and they strive to reach a general consensus on the scores the article receives. If they can’t come to an agreement, then a second pod of analysts takes a look at the same article. Want to know what factors they consider when determining an article’s bias and reliability? You can read about our methodology here. All of these individual article scores are entered into our database, and a weighted average of these determines where an individual source falls on the Media Bias Chart®. This important work has resulted in more than 2,600 web/print sources being fully rated, with new sources added every week. Of the 2,600 web/print sources our team has rated, only 144 of them are featured on July’s Static Media Bias Chart® because it’s impossible to put all of them in a single image (the logos would overlap and appear on top of one another, and the result would be an image that is impossible to read). A list of the 144 sources included this month is available on our website. https://lnkd.in/gKUe_REh

Last week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer forced a vote on the Right to IVF Act, which would make it a right nationwide for women to access in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments. The bill would have also expanded access through insurance as well as for military members and veterans. This comes as both Democrats and Republicans are seeking to come up with a response to voters’ concerns about access to abortion and reproductive care — an issue that is expected to figure largely in the November election. Our team examined media coverage of the bill and its aftermath from across the political spectrum in this week’s Topic of the Week. https://lnkd.in/ewAzd4DC
