Just a fraction of the soldiers who lived through D-Day are still alive. Of the 16.4 million Americans who served in the military during WWII, fewer than 100,000 are expected to still be alive by the end of the year, according to statistics from the US Department of Veterans Affairs. My uncle Paul Young has just celebrated his 103rd birthday in May and was a B-25 Bomber pilot flying many missions over northern Italy. He was part of the 57th Bomb Wing nicknamed the 'Bridge Busters' hindering resupply of the German army in Italy. Newspaper clipping attached of Uncle Paul's crew assigned to B25 plane named ' Heaven Can Wait'!

  • Today, we remember the brave soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, a pivotal moment in World War II that changed the course of history. And to those like Private First Class Joe Lesniewski, who gave his all without reserve, we salute you.  "I don't feel that I'm any kind of hero. To me, the work had to be done. I was asked to do it. So I did. When I lecture kids, I tell them the same thing." We are proud of our veterans, those actively serving, and in gratitude to those who fought before us.
