What type of workplace do you have? The number of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), also know as ergonomic injuries, is expected to double by 2050. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, MSDs are the leading cause of workplace absenteeism. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, there is a direct connection between work environment and the development of MSDs. In brief, your workplace is either actively reducing injuries. Or, it's causing them. As millions of #manufacturing roles remain unfilled, competition for top talent continues to increase, and retention remains a challenge... It's worth asking a few questions: Do employees feel like their health is a priority? Do you have a workplace people want to join and stay? Are your anti-fatigue mats working for or against your people? Are employees going home from work healthy as when they arrived? Are they able to stand long hours on their feet, building your premium products, without pain and discomfort? #muscolskeletalhealth #workplacesafety #manufacturingjobs

    Marketing Manager @ AcroMat | R&D | Custom Anti-Fatigue Mats Made Easy

Considering custom-printed anti-fatigue mats? 5 ways putting logos or safety messages on your mats can elevate safety and brand identity...👇 This week at AcroMat we officially added custom logo and safety message printing as a feature of our custom anti-fatigue mat capabilities. Because "custom" is so much more than shape and size. Custom is about having the ability to get exactly what YOU need to get your employees home from work as safe and healthy as when they arrived. Truly custom mats need to be any shape, any size – and any features. This is the future of anti-fatigue mats, and we're thrilled to be pioneering it. 👉5 benefits of custom-printed anti-fatigue mats.  ➡1. Strengthen brand identity 68% of businesses say brand consistency contributes to revenue growth. Custom-printed anti-fatigue mats with your logo, mission statement or another visual element are a subtle yet effective way to not only prioritize ergonomic health but also reinforce brand identity across your facility. ➡2. Elevate safety where it matters most Slips, trips and falls are the No. 2 most preventable workplace injury. Machine-related incidents, often caused by tripping or slipping, are the No. 1 most preventable workplace injury. Clear, vibrant safety messages on your mats give you the ability to remind employees of safety protocols in fast-moving, high-risk areas. ➡3. Create a cohesive aesthetic Do you use anti-fatigue mats in heavy industrial settings, where workplace design is primarily focused on performance and aesthetic less of a priority? Printing logos and safety messaging on your mats can add aesthetic to a work environment that's likely lacking – bringing color, organization and key messages to employees who work long hours on their feet. ➡4. Impress clients and Job Seekers 88% of full-time workers say company culture is critical to their decisions around whether to accept a new job or remain with a company. Nearly as many business leaders say company culture matters when making decisions about whether to buy from or work with a company. Printing on your mats definitely will never compensate for bad culture. It can however give clients, employees and prospective hires insight into your culture and your brand, at the ground level. And, prove you have a culture that values health and safety.   ➡5. Combine printing with custom shapes and sizes Workspaces come in all shapes and sizes. Your anti-fatigue mats should too. This our mission at AcroMat: Designing and manufacturing custom anti-fatigue mats to fit your unique workspaces. But as touched on above, shape and size are only component. "Custom" isn’t about the biggest mat or most unique shape. It’s about being able to get exactly what you need to safeguard your people. We feel strongly custom-printed anti-fatigue mats play key role in this. #workplacesafety #slipandfall #leanmanufacturing

Each day during #SafeandSoundWeek, we're sharing tips to make sure your anti-fatigue mats are doing their part. Today, why mat shape and size matter.👇 The goal of anti-fatigue mats is to reduce slip, trip and fall hazards while providing critical ergonomic support. They shouldn't do one or the other. They should to BOTH. Often, this means getting a particular shape and size. In the video below, this #manufacturing company was previously piecing together rectangular runners, standard-sized mats, and flimsy modular tiles to cover 1,200 sq. ft. of workspace. Instead of elevating health and safety... Instead of fitting the workspace like a glove... Instead of empowering employees in their work... The mats and tiles were working against all of the above. One reason why: They had the wrong shape and size. In partnership with AcroMat, they designed a single custom anti-fatigue mat precisely to fit the workstation. One mat. One surface. One traction. One thickness. One consistent cushion. Neatly and precisely wrapping around the work cell. But "custom" doesn't always mean 1,200 sq. ft. with various angles. Custom might be 1,200 sq. ft, a simple 2.5 ft. by 3.25 ft. rectangle, a circle instead of a square, or a runner with borders only on one side. Ultimately, custom means means getting exactly what you need to seamlessly safeguard your workforce. -- Led by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Safe Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August to spotlight the role workplace health and safety programs play in making sure America's workers get home from work safe and healthy. We're proud to join nearly 6,000 companies in recognizing and reflecting on the importance of #workplacesafety this week. Thanks for joining as we shared 5 anti-fatigue mat safety tips over past 5 days! #OSHA #safetyforall #ergonomicdesign #slipandfall

Each day during #SafeandSoundWeek, we're sharing tips to make sure your anti-fatigue mats play their part. Today, 4 tips for getting the right mats.👇 Anti-fatigue mats work by: -Keeping your muscles engaged -Promoting healthy blood flow to/from the heart -Helping your body share the load, reducing overexertion Collectively, this reduces ergonomic injury risks. However, the wrong mats can actually increase injury risks. 4 Tips for Finding the Right Anti-fatigue Mats: ➡1. Getting an elastic material Polyurethane, gel, PVC foam, PVC/nitrile blends, pure nitrile... There are a lot of mat materials out there. While they often look the same, they aren't. Certain materials will flatten from heavy use, diminishing the benefit. At AcroMat, we make our mats from 100% nitrile rubber foam because it never loses its ergonomic cushion. Combined with a medium-soft durometer rating, nitrile reduces pain and discomfort by as much as 50% compared to hard surfaces. Whichever material you select, make sure it won't go flat over time. ➡2. Choosing the right thickness Mats that are 5/8 in. to 3/4 in. thick mat have the lowest rating for overall fatigue, which is 50% lower than hard surfaces. Mats that are 1 in. thick create a sinking feeling under your feet and put added pressure on your ankles. Mats that are less than 3/8 in. provide roughly the same amount of cushion as hardwood. In the 3-minute video in the comments, General Manager Russell Herbert and Ergonomist Crystal Nelson discuss the ideal mat thickness and firmness. ➡3. Selecting the right shape and size Even the best mat is worthless if it's the wrong shape and size. If you're piecing together small mats to fill a workspace, this leads to gaps, sliding and overlapping borders. Gaps and overlapping create preventable trip hazards. If your mat is too small, this leads to on/off stepping and edge-standing. Ergonomist Mary Plehal shares, “While stepping on/off might seem inconsequential, it can lead to increases in safety concerns in categories such as slips, trips and falls, even cuts, punctures and scrapes. It can also contribute to ankle, knee and hip/low back fatigue." ➡4. Starting with a sample mat 52% of safety and production leaders expect their mats to last at least 2 years; 70% say they aren't. One reason why this happens: You skip the sample process. Before your next purchase: -Get a free full-sized mat to trial -Test the mat in production -Test it for several weeks -Get feedback -- Safe Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August to spotlight the role workplace health and safety programs play in making sure America's workers get home from work as safe and healthy as when they arrived. Each day during #SafeandSoundWeek, we're sharing tips to make sure your anti-fatigue mats play their part. Today, how to make sure your mats safely interact with carts and chair wheels.👇 Can anti-fatigue mats accommodate rolling carts and chair wheels? Yes, but only if the borders are carefully designed and you consider issues like sliding and surface texture. ➡1. 20-degree borders 20-degrees (#ADACompliant) is the minimum angle you need for carts and chairs to seamlessly roll on/off your mats. The video below shows a couple examples of mats with 20-degree borders. Anything higher, wheeled traffic will likely catch and tip over. ➡2. Surface texture If the borders of your mat are the correct angle, but the surface is ridged and bumpy or the path to the floor isn't seamless, this will likely lead to tipped over carts and chairs. For example, "waterfall" designed diamond-plate mats, where the anti-fatigue pad is smaller than the diamond-tread surface, may have the correct angle but the design prevents a seamlessly transition to the floor. This creates a tipping hazard for carts and wheeled chairs. 💡See No. 2 in our 5 Ways to Stop Your Anti-Fatigue Mat From Curling post from earlier this week for a closer look at the waterfall design. ➡3. Non-slip coating Heavy carts and chair wheels, especially on slick floors, can pull or push your mats along (sliding) as they roll on/off if the bottom surface or material isn't designed to keep them in place. Our non-slip coating, Grip-R, is one proven option. See how Grip-R works with the 2-minute video in the comments. Before using wheeled traffic alongside your mats, we recommend first getting a free, full-sized sample mat and carefully testing the borders, surface texture and its ability to remain in place. -- Led by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Safe Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August to spotlight the role workplace health and safety programs play in making sure America's workers get home from work as safe and healthy as when they arrived. Each day during #SafeandSoundWeek, we're sharing tips to make sure your anti-fatigue mats are doing their part. Today, how to keep your mats from sliding.👇 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, slips, trips and fall are the No. 3 most common work-related cause of injury. Contact with objects and equipment, which slips and trips can cause, are the No. 2 common work-related cause of injury. Anti-fatigue mats that slide around can lead to both. 5 proven ways to keep your mats from sliding: 1. Add a non-slip backing 2. Create a glove-like fit 3. Re-visit the mat materials 4. Look for non-slip certified products 5. Keep your work areas clean Beyond being a safety hazard, sliding halts productivity in high-demand environments by forcing employees to constantly watch their steps and move more slowly. Up first, preventing curling edges.👇 Slips, trips, and falls are the No. 1 preventable workplace injury. Curling borders is a highly common, and preventable, culprit. Here are 5 ways to stop curling in its tracks: 1. Look close at your mat materials 2. Look closely at the design of your mats 3. Review the product warranties 4. Ask questions (then ask more) 5. Put free sample mats to the test We see facilities tape, glue, even bolt and nail mats to platforms to prevent curling. These tactics work for a time, but permanently eliminating curling starts with mat material and design. From there, thorough research and testing to make sure they perform the way your people need. -- Led by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Safe Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August to spotlight the role workplace health and safety programs play in making sure America's workers get home from work as safe and healthy as when they arrived.
