On June 13th, Abound Food Care with our OC Hunger Alliance partners shared our report on the status of food insecurity in Orange County. The report prepared by Charitable Ventures identified results of a survey of the organizations that feed those in need and the individuals from traditionally underserved demographics who utilize the charitable/supplemental feeding network in Orange County. The report also identifies areas where intentional collaboration can have dramatic outcomes and identifies the steps being taken to expand participation in the OC Hunger Alliance for public, private, and non-profit stakeholders as well as individuals with lived experiences. This level of innovative collaboration and focus on improved efficiencies will lead to systemic changes that can provide greater access to nutritious food in conjunction with other tools and resources that address the root causes of food insecurity and poverty. Food recovery isn't just about helping those in need; it's about helping our planet too. By coordinating effective food recovery programs, excess edible food is donated to people instead of going to landfills, resulting in less methane in our atmosphere.
