Next week, #SCOTUS is set to listen to oral arguments for Williams v. Washington, Alabama Secretary of Labor. It's a case that will decide whether certain plaintiffs, such as nursing facility residents suing over rights violations, must exhaust all administrative remedies before bringing certain civil rights suits in state court. Get our full analysis and insights on the case.

Thank you to Heather C. McGhee for joining us at AARP Foundation to talk about how racial justice and prosperity are intertwined in our country – and how we all benefit when we work together. She left us with a hopeful message: as she has traveled the country, she has found it is often older people who are the changemakers in their communities, working across racial lines to solve common problems. We need more people to do the same. So I will share her call to action with all of you: “We may not be everyday activists, but I hope all of us are once-a-month activists and take some kind of action with our neighbors for the greater good.”

Age discrimination continues to be pervasive in hiring across the country. According to a new report from the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (#EEOC), older adults are increasingly being left out of the tech industry: 📈 The percentage of 25- to 39-year-olds in tech jobs has increased to 40.8%, compared to 33.1% in the overall U.S. workforce. 📉 Meanwhile, the proportion of tech workers over 40 is declining, from 55.9% in 2014 to 52.1% in 2022. Learn more about the issue, plus how we're fighting in the courts to protect older workers. #EmploymentLaw | #AgeDiscrimination

Help us support those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Millions of people, including vulnerable older adults, face enormous challenges as they begin to recover from this historic disaster. AARP Foundation has created a relief fund to help them. Your donation will be matched - dollar for dollar - by @AARP and will go directly to organizations on the ground that will be there not just today, but in three months or six months, as communities rebuild. Please donate today.

Congratulations to our Marketing & Communications Team! Led by Brittany Feinson, the team received the Grand Prize award for Nonprofit Communications Team of the Year from Ragan Communications and PR Daily. AARP Foundation's Charlotte Castillo accepted the award on the team's behalf. By sharing compelling stories of older adults, the team increased both visits to AARP Foundation’s digital platforms and its earned media coverage by more than 300% year over year. These efforts, combined with those of other teams across the Foundation, contributed to nearly $1 billion secured for older adults with low income — a 26% year-over-year increase.

The number of Hispanic people in the U.S. now tops 63 million, equating to almost 1 in 5 people living in the U.S. Yet Hispanic people represent only 6% of the legal profession. Recently, AARP Foundation's Louis Lopez presented a new report from the American Bar Association Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities with key findings on pressing concerns Hispanic Americans face in education, employment, health care, housing, voting and criminal justice. When Hispanic people more equitably contribute their talents and perspectives with communities across the country, all of America benefits. #HispanicHeritageMonth

Tune in next week to hear my friend, colleague, and fellow fighter against age discrimination William Rivera discuss the evolution of age discrimination in employment laws in the United States with a focus on “hot topics” in the field, including the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on opportunities for older workers. He will additionally discuss the work that AARP and AARP Foundation are doing to promote employment opportunities for older workers, and share tips for spotting and addressing age discrimination in the workplace. https://lnkd.in/ejbXytid
