  • 𝗔𝗔𝗣𝗟 𝗘𝘅𝗖𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗖𝗣𝗟 ǀ 𝗔𝗔𝗣𝗟 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 Nancy McCaskell is president of Masonboro Energy LLC, a consulting firm focused on energy and landwork. During more than three decades of managing and leading acquisitions, divestitures and negotiations, she has held leadership positions with Pitts Oil Company, Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., J-W Operating Co. and Coda Energy Inc. Active in leadership roles at the local and national level, Nancy sits on the Dallas Association of Petroleum Landmen (DAPL) board of directors and new serves as AAPL president — only the second female in history to hold the role. She was named DAPL’s 2023 Landman of Year and received AAPL’s 2020 Blankenship Family Horizon Award, which recognizes an exceptional female land professional and role model. Additionally, Nancy is an advisory member to the University of Oklahoma College of Law MLS and LLM programs in energy and natural resources, and she has served on several community nonprofit boards. She and her spouse, the Rev. Mary Stewart Hall, live in Dallas and enjoy traveling, art and music. ———— 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 — To be chosen by our membership to serve as your president is an honor and fills me with gratitude. I am grateful to those who have come before me, to the previous Executive Committee and to our super-fantastic staff. As we approach our seventh decade as an organization, we have a rich and vibrant history for which we are thankful and a future full of possibilities. The future holds for each of us the possibility of steadfastness to our mission and resilience and renewal. Our definition of landwork embodies the ideas of what the energy future will bring to us — oil and gas, wind, solar, lithium from brine and a multitude of other resources. The vastness of the resources before us — our human resources, our energy resources — calls upon each of us to participate, shoulder to shoulder, in the endeavor to ensure our association is sustainable far into the future. It will require us to have conversations important to each of us as members and to listen. What is it we desire? How do we bring all our different voices together to find what we are good at and what is necessary? What member services must we aim to make better? What member services are requisite for landmen to improve and grow? These are calls to each of us. As your president, I pledge to you to focus on a strategic path forward with an awareness of both our challenges and opportunities, to listen, and to serve you and the organization with my whole self, so that at the end of the day, we can all say we did our best for our beloved AAPL. As the poet Amanda Gorman writes: “I challenge you to heed this call, I dare you to shape our fate.” May it be so. ———— Learn more about Nancy and the rest of our 2024-25 AAPL Executive Committee — https://bit.ly/3YfNlhh. • AAPL’s Advocacy continues to raise the bar this vital election year. In fact, our team has just crushed its own record for the number of bills tracked in a single year, and it’s only August! As of this writing, AAPL is tracking 613 total bills that could affect our members – 176 on the federal level and 437 on the state level. Over 37 states currently have bills being closely monitored by AAPL. It should be noted that Nevada, Texas, Utah and Wyoming aren't in session in 2024! While this election year has been supercharged, 2025 is sure to be just as busy with industry-related activity coming from these key states. Special shoutout to Doug Schmidt, RPL, Governmental Affairs Committee chair, Russell B. Cohen, AAPL director of government affairs, and the entire Governmental Affairs Committee as well as those who have supported AAPL’s legislative efforts. We simply could not monitor important bills and advocate for the land profession without the strong backing of our members. If you are not a member or have not renewed yet, please do so to help support AAPL, the land profession and the entire energy industry! https://bit.ly/3Pbu2Pd AAPL is committed to addressing critical legislative, regulatory and judicial issues that shape public policy in the federal, state and local spheres that directly affect landwork and land professionals.
