About us
826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.

Last week, we said goodbye to the 2023-2024 AmeriCorps cohort members as their time at 826 Boston came to an end. ❤️😭 This group of talented individuals led workshops, advised on college essays, worked with students on stories that ended up as books, and were a constant source of encouragement for students, teachers, volunteers, and 826 Boston team members alike. 📚✨ To our outgoing service member cohort: THANK YOU! 🙏 It has been an honor to get to know each of you! You have left an indelible mark on our community, and we can't wait to see the amazing things you’ll achieve next. Stay in touch and keep shining! ✨

✈️✨ The #826Boston team spent last week at the 826 Staff Development Conference in Los Angeles, and wow, what a special time it was! We had a blast meeting other incredible #826 chapters, making new friends, swapping tips and tricks, sharing resources, visiting the Echo Park Time Travel Mart, rocking the mic during karaoke, and celebrating the work of amplifying student voices together. ❤️✨ Huge thanks to 826 National for organizing this inspiring and meaningful time at #826SDC2024, and to 826LA for being the warmest and most welcoming hosts!

🌟 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT 🌟 #826Boston volunteers are the absolute best, and this month we wanted to shine a light on Vy Tran (she/her)! Q: Tell us about yourself, Vy! A: Hi! My name is Vy Tran and I am a second year student majoring in Business and Communications with a Public Relations minor at Northeastern University. Q: What do you like to do for fun? A: Outside of school, I enjoy walking my dog, hanging out with my friends and family, and hunting down new restaurants to try out. Q: How did you get involved with 826 Boston? A: I joined 826 Boston for my Service Learning class, and it has been amazing so far! All of the staff members are so kind and my favorite part is connecting with students about their school life. Overall, it has been a great experience. 🎉 Do you want to be part of 826 Boston’s incredible team of volunteers and make a lasting impression on students like Vy? We have several upcoming shifts and opportunities for individuals and teams! Visit 826boston.org/volunteer today!

What an honor it has been to amplify student voices with you, Maor! We are so grateful for YOU and for all that you have done for the students. ✨🙏
Last week the 826 Boston In-School Programs team wrapped up programming at New Mission High School for the year. During that time I had the privilege of getting to know many of our students. It has been a wonderful experience reading and supporting them with their writing. I also got to share my love of arts and culture criticism with a group of students through a creative writing lesson that I developed and taught a few weeks ago! Thank you to 826 Boston for bringing me on the team, and thank you to New Mission for welcoming us into your community.
