Higginson, an architect and designer in his own right, saw major flaws in the design and structure of local buildings and wanted to improve their quality. Delivering sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective construction methods for a deserving community is something we’re really proud of. Especially on days like today (#EarthDay) when we all take a closer look at how our designs impact the planet. Material choice can be a critical factor in achieving a project's sustainability goals. That’s why our Housing Studio has incorporated cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor and roof systems in our recent multi-family housing projects. We select this material for the carbon sequestered in its material and the energy embodied in its lifecycle. CLT provides a longer life for our buildings than typical construction, which helps avoid the resource impact of subsequent construction. It also brings warmth to the interior spaces our end-users call home.
