One of my favorite topics! I've heard this phrase so many times: "I had a feeling." In response to why a communication idea was successful. In increasingly complex environments, red/black is pretty much a guarantee that you could be wrong tomorrow. Resources are then used up, colleagues lose trust - not to mention the potential damage to reputation. I would delete the sentence "I had a feeling" and replace it with "I saw it coming because I measured it". The quality and accuracy of the content increases significantly! What tools do you use for your dashboards?

I think that there are two mistakes or dangers to watch out for besides the obvious: Not trying new things and not learning from your mistakes. Surely, alignment with corporate values and identity as well as attending your stakeholders properly and having periodic evaluations like social listening are part of the job. But, sometimes we get stuck on patterns and models. Following a recipe is important but it's not the complete job. Those rules become guidelines that as an expert in communications you have to adapt your work around because the job is constantly evolving and changing. You have to listen and adapt accordingly and that's ends up as great career in comms.

It’s important to create your own voice independent from others and be authentically you. While we all learn lessons and can grown in wisdom, don’t be afraid to take a chance on your self, and speak up when you have ideas. Also take a risk to explore community that you can flourish in within a work environment or outside of work. If this company isn’t embracing your view points, active listen, then turn inward to see what would make you flourish in a work environments. Companies want successful employees but not always is there a perfect match, so see what we can contribute and step outside your comfort to share your wisdom. This may be counter to what mistakes are being made instead it’s about empowering you towards success.
