One of the things that I find helpful is inclusion of the entire team in the Construction Safety and Phasing Plan (CSPP) development to better understand the operational impacts, challenges, and mitigations. The perspective from each team that is impacted by a project is crucial for safety planning and implementation.

Comprehensive safety training and followed by a test will ensure the qualification of associates. It must be mandatory to qualify the test for each resource. Periodic audits must be included for further checks and balances.

I like my contractor to submit a site specific safety plan (SSSP). This way you can see how they plan to manage safety on the project before they start. You can review and comment ahead of time vs. fixing something that didn’t work along the way. Also you should have regular scheduled meetings to review the safety plan to ensure they are on track.

Yearly training on job site and equipment use.all sign off. Anything new, give immediate training on use and storage, everyone signs off.

The tempo and content of regular communication is imperative to a successful project no matter the size or complexity. Keeping everyone focused on the immediate tasks while providing a big picture view of the overall project progress will keep team members engaged.

(Rehearsal is very important ) Without rehearsal all the equipment are useless if team members don't know how to use the safety equipment .

A mi me es muy útil manejar un semáforo de 3 colores, donde con el equipo podemos identificar los puntos o servicios que requieren un atención de manera urgente y así para abajo donde podemos definir fechas de atención más prolongadas, teniendo claro que la comunicación debe hacerse desde ese momento al cliente o afectado.

Es importante que entre equipo tengamos roles de supervisión, a mi me es muy funcional que en mi equipo tengo quien coordina los trabajos y opera en conjunto con los proveedores y otra persona es quien revisa/recibe esos trabajos y valida los costos-presupuestos, compara así no somos juez y parte

Sometimes the Facility responsible overseeing will hold the maximum accountability as the providers are within his scope of work, but, the bigger and more complex projects should trigger the addition of a third party site oversee, who is proficient in organizing multiple teams of construction workers.

Normally on an active construction site, you will have 3 debriefing, one on the arrival before the works start, one after lunch and one at the end of the job as pre-preparation for the next day. Besides this, a Facility needs to keep routine meetings with the coworkers that are affected by the works. I’ve found effective providing a weekly stand up meeting close by o the OH&S board with daily emails updates, in order to decrease the disruption caused by excess meetings.

Soy útiles las sesiones de 30 minutos a la semana para poder establecer lo relevante y poder mencionar los pendientes y/o tener visibilidad de qué y en donde estamos cada uno.

Firstly, understand the changes yourself. I hear over and over upper management members of a department or team talk about changes and updates etc. When questioned by team members, they don't know the subject or have the answers. Secondly, it's fine have preshift/ yourself, you can then have those healthy, effective conversations with workers. It's not all about sitting in an office dictating things.

Al realizar un acercamiento al personal hacerlo de una manera positiva pero firme, es mejor acompañar para cambiar paradigmas y creencias limitantes en seguridad.

Recognize and reward team members who consistently follow the protocols. And clearly communicate the consequences of not adhering to the safety protocols and enforce them consistently.

Safety is a cultural shift that requires everyone to think and act professionally and safely. The old saying a tidy site is a safe site is very true; the culture and leadership of the onsite team is vital to promoting an open communication culture where safety observations will be shared and acted upon. Good sites are tidy and well organised from the moment you set foot on the site, the way that labour is managed / access and egresses the site is professional and respectful, everyone knows what to do and when and there are clear organisation messages available. Poor sites I have experience have slack attitudes to safety where there is a fear to highlight issues .... I have been told "what the f@@@ does it have to do with you?"
