One thing I have found helpful is to prioritise the tasks based on the criticality & then to start working on the agile frameworks by breaking down the tasks into phases and emphasizes continuous collaboration with team.

A criticality assessment of all key tasks is a must for planning. These items are identified on the Critical Path and can be permits, finance approvals, clients approvals, etc. To mitigate this use a RACI/RAM Chart to delegate responsibilities.

Prioritise tasks on the critical path and continuously review the critical path as this can be dynamic as you progress. Focus on the critical tasks and ensure effective communication and effective risk management.

This is where the planner and PM earn their bread and butter, these two need to work together to make sure progress is on track and that the planner informs the PM of future taskings that require action. Even better the planner is essential to advise and even suggest possible solutions to potential blockers

When a communication fail, at least one end will be impacted. Plan meetings and report at least monthly or less depending on the project lifetime. Monitore the execution plan and progress and take action immediately as an event be detected as undesired to avoid consequences.

I am used to inspire the project team members to begin the project closeout format in the project day first. Why? Remember why the deadline is what it is. What was the goal? What are you saving or preventing by meeting that deadline? If the intention was to save costs, pouring additional resources into the project to rush to meet the deadline might defeat the purpose. If the deadline is critical for another deadline, short term quality might need to be sacrificed to prevent more consequences. Digging deeper into the real goal and purpose of the original plan is key.
