It is Mostly a communication problem. If you just Joined the team recently, most probably his perception about you came from what he heard from you during the Interview. He set already his expectations and leaving you to execute ad show him results. In this case it is most important to have a detailed meeting that both of you are available and dedicated for. You have to ask him clearly about his expectations and asks and what he expect you to do. It will be even better if you spend sometime assessing the situation in work and see some quick wins or points to be tackled and you discuss them with your manager during the Meeting to ensure that if these points are of his interest too or No. You must have similar agenda as your manager
