Since an organization has but one culture, I would instead focus on creating a healthy, positive, supportive, people-centered culture. From there, I would work to start creating a safety climate within the workplace. My first step would be to do a risk analysis to identify the various components I will need to include in my safety plan.

Innovation comes when people feel safe to challenge the status quo. So, if you are looking to develop innovation within the company, whether it be safety innovation or something else, focus on developing the environment of psychological safety first and foremost. It is also worth noting that people go through four stages of psychological safety. They need to feel included, safe to learn, safe to contribute and then safe to challenge the status quo. When teams progress through the four stages, they create deeply inclusive environments, accelerate learning, increase contribution and stimulate innovation.

In my company, we've implemented an innovation competition for each Dept/Site to showcase creative ideas within a specific scope. We form teams, we shortlist the most pertinent concepts and invite teams to present them during a pitching event. This event encompasses : current situation, innovative ideas, scalability, ROI, and implementation planning. Subsequently, judges evaluate and reward the top 3 innovative ideas.

As per my view , innovation can only be possible to promote and sustain if the culture of the organisation is favourable. Most importantly unbiased and honest ehs philosophy should be culminated by the top management . So,making them aligned to this is the toughest task to start for this to happen.
