There really isn't a one sized answer. I would consider your age, how much you will be able to draw from your retirement accounts etc. If you are less than 65, the cost of health care is also a consideration because you don't qualify for Medicare. Overall though I would say you need to consider how much you like your current position. Also, work gives people a sense of purpose. So, if you don't have plans on what you want to do with the rest of your life, I would keep working and figure out what your 'Act 2' is, before jumping ship.

If you are unsure, take a back seat. Sometimes its wise to withdraw from what you are doing in order to evaluation self. Take a break or go on a vacation, find an alternative and reset yourself. Goal settings also play a vital role to find out what milestones have you reached and count your blessings and achievements. See if what you have can be invested in a way that you can sit back and relax with a cup of coffee and money pours in. If that's not the case, design your work patterens to make this fanticy a reality and then think about retirement or changing your passion.
