Be inclusive to me is more than just contract women, different skin color, etc. To really be inclusive you have to first of all demonstrate your team they can trust you and you are inclusive because you really care, just to promote a better world! Be inclusive is not just listen other’s opinion but also embrace the care for each other flag, develop your team like teachers do with our little ones in kindergarten! Listen more, care more and be inspired developing talents! At the end, raise your voice with proud to say “it was done by my team”!!! Leadership is all about the art to give equal opportunity and get proudness with other’s success!

To build a team which is diverse, inclusive and collaborative in nature, We must follow a approach of 30:30:40 ratio of SME/Freshers/Mid Level (Competent). Here SME is subject matter expert who knows how it would be done and who can guide the team time to time. Mid Level represent some hands-on experience, aware on the process and tools. Moreover, healthy culture and good leader is most important aspect of it. Any good leader can take work from average team but pseudo leader can spoil the brilliant team.

Brainstorming improves communication and when views are heard and final decision is taken by keeping every one in loop, things will fall into place. When team members are leveraged in a project; it's important to tie project goals to their skills and how they will add value to the project, team, customer & company. People speak up when they have emotional security & when they feel heard. Determine what key decisions are needed to progress forward & who can help. Ensure you have stakeholders identified & how they want to be engaged (some want to be part of the brainstorming & process formation while others want to see ideas and the final recommendation). Celebrate small, medium and large projects. Ensure to thank others for their time/efforts (be specific).

Biggest road block for new ideas to be tried is the fear of failure and the fear of being punished. Hence as the PM, one needs to create an environment where one can not only suggest but also try out new idea without getting the fear of being reprimanded for failure

Whenever we have teams, we are going to have conflicts. In a way, healthy conflicts leads to new ideas and helps to grow the teams. There is nothing like managing conflicts. I would say, accept the conflicts as part of the game and train your teams to consider others views as important as their own views. It comes with lot of hard work, but once teams start accepting other's view with respect and integrity the performances are another level.

It may sound counterintuitive to some, but we can get a more cohesive and efficient team by talking lesser about work within the team. Leaders should regularly carve out time to just have random chats with team members on random co-curricular and/or extracurricular topics, ofcourse within bounds of personal comfort and human ethics. In diverse teams, this has even more value as cultural / ethnic divides can be overcome through informal interaction sessions. And this will, more often than not, show up in ascending business metrics.

There should be clear channels of communication horizontally and vertically. There should be clarity to all the team members why they are within the workspace. When the Why is clear (mission & vision) to all the team members involved, the how (collaboration among the diverse team members) becomes easy. Institutionalize the project's core values which at the centre should be respect for one another and acknowledging the strength in diversity. Establish functional conflict resolution mechanisms and team members should be free to express their divergent views.

I personally think this step is to be integrated at all steps of creating a success dynamic project team. If nothing else, be kind! But ensure conversation can be open - don’t run the risk of positive toxicity. If everything has to be positive all the time then a culture of where people cannot say anything negative will creep in. This can affect well-being. Meet regularly via project scrums and check ins. Look for what’s not said as much as what is said in the team!

If you select the seeds consciously, you can only create a blossoming tree. It all starts with a completely diverse mindset to even select from scratch the right candidates, with diverse criteria than only looking blindly what people have done so far in the past but also to find out where do they want to head in the future and what hidden jewels they bring along. Only then you can create a solid and fruitful team, whether it’s in the tech or sales department, individual but also collaborative goals need to be considered. Then the implementation is much easier done, on a day to day basis. Trusting and allowing people to contribute in their diverse free flowing ways, that’s how it all blossoms in unimaginable ways!

Always select the BEST and most well-suited candidate for the team. Never hire to fulfill "quotas" which ultimately are NOT rewarded by the shareholders in spite of current ESG and internal metrics fads. Do right and fear not.

When beginning a project, you need to assess your technical team for their particular skill sets and assign accordingly, empowering your team to be the SME and/or POC of that particular task. For example, you may have extremely analytical team members who would thrive at capturing and reporting on statistics. You may have automation savvy team members able to create dashboards that pull the entire project together. Cultivating your team’s interests and passions will result in project success and their engagement and empowerment every time.

Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to all team members. This will help in building skills and foster a growth mindset. Secondly seek feedback and continuously refine your efforts. Actively listen to your team members concerns because building a diverse and inclusive team is an ongoing process.

Then it is followed by unbiased selection criteria for shortlisting candidates and interviewing them by right interview panel. Unfortunately, nepotism and favourism quite common and consequently projects or organisations unable to deliver with full potential. Furthermore, matching tasks with talent is key to success of technical teams.
