We always ought to think what we write is correct and optimised but when we give our code to seniors to review it, they will identify what mistakes we have made or are there any areas to optimize further more and provide valuable comments and feedback. I've always loved the idea, but never got to practice it for extended periods of time. I also found out I have ADHD and body doubling is a natural coping strategy. I think it's best to give clear guidelines and standards and to also have automated tools that assist with compliance. Though strong "enforcement" usually creates it own problems.

Communicate your goals. If you're more interested in a particular part of the stack, mention it. There may be opportunities to transition. It's important to avoid resentment with your team members and avoid feeling like you're getting hampered by others. That said, obviously it's also a good idea to try new things. I switched from full stack to DevOps, and I'm glad I did. It's much more interesting to me now than at first.

It's difficult for any developer (not impossible) to understand a complex code, not in it's syntax but what it does😃. Software development is an art, but when we study it, unlike other arts, we skip the step where we study the works of the masters. I forget whom I’m quoting here, but it’s an important point nevertheless. Learning to write software well is more than knowing the language, the libraries, and the frameworks (understand the difference!), it’s more than learning the common design patterns and anti patterns. Reading code, really reading it, the good code at least, ramps your skills. Don’t neglect this. It’s like chess. Once you know the board and the rules, the real learning begins and never ends.
