As an Editor Lead, keeping up with business English terminology and trends is like being a lifelong student. I immerse myself in the latest business publications, podcasts, and webinars. Networking with industry professionals is invaluable; they offer firsthand insights into evolving jargon. I also attend seminars and training sessions, ensuring my skills are sharp and relevant. Online forums and social media groups are great for real-time discussions on current trends. It's a mix of continuous learning, engaging with the business community, and staying curious about the ever-changing landscape of business language. It's not just a job; it's a journey of constant discovery and adaptation.

Asking questions is essential for keeping up with relevant vocabulary. Communicate unknown phrases with coworkers or other departments. The constant change in terms is used to facilitate easier communication.  Learn new things, do research, and adjust to changes in the industry to stay up-to-date. Remember that being professional involves asking questions when necessary as well as studying, understanding, and listening.

I totally agree. I like to listen to podcasts on Spotify on my way to or from work. It is a great way to unwind during my commute and give my eyes a break from the computer screen. It's also fantastic for someone like me who excels at absorbing information through listening. Not only does it help me understand accents better, but it also improves my workplace skills. It's also a fantastic conversation starter with my colleagues and a clever way to incorporate new vocabulary and expressions into my daily interactions. 😊🎧

Also, you can listen to a radio channel that specializes in business. In Italy for example we have Radio24, a radio station devoted to inform many times a day about business news, financial markets, investments, with excellent speakers and valuable guests. A great source of contemporary jargon and widely used (and explained) terminology.

I've found (as an EFL teacher) that not only inspiring the student to use any of the methods above, but actively motivating them to use the new vocabulary as soon as possible, in any situation they find themselves in...... at a basic level having the student report the new vocabulary back to you, at a higher level actually using it in a work environment......helps to imbed the newly acquired knowledge.

Language attrition can affect your mother tongue. I have ensured that I read and listen to quality English language journalism from a variety of political standpoints (e.g. FT, The Times, The Guardian) to ensure that while my prism of my former home culture (i.e. that of the UK) is eroded, I nonetheless stave off language attrition. My view of UK popular culture is effectively fossilised since around the end of the 1990s. The challenge is not just a case of learning new terminology, but also shoring up dormant parts of my native language.

Read books. Reading books on communication or new books just introduced into the market can help. Communication books are likely to make use of new terminologies while new books are likely to use them in sentences thereby providing context for understanding. Language Apps Language apps like Duolingo are a great way to learn new words and keep abreast with trends. Editing Apps Editing apps like Grammarly provide writing support and help rewrite text so that the language I up to date.

I believe that terminology management tools maintain a database of words and terms that are commonly used throughout a company. However, they include accepted translations for each term as well as usage notes and other pertinent information. Often, they are combined with translation management tools that automatically detect those phrases in your content, which can reduce the cost of translation by facilitating reuse.
