How do you show the impact of your teaching?

I give this feedback in the hope that you regard it as constructive criticism. This page on the impact of teaching should discuss the purpose of teaching and its impact. However, the essay does not address primary purposes of teaching nor its impact. The essay is void of any mention of student preparedness for life after school. There is no mention of motivating nor empowering students to set goals. It fails to address that the real impact of teaching is to improve quality of life for the next generation. If students are not motivated, empowered, inspired, and prepared by our teaching to set goals and direction for their lives, then we did not have the impact for which our profession exists, regardless of performance metrics.

Trying to stay in touch with your students and become a mentoring soul- this way you can check best, which impact you have had and what you can make as a difference to their lives. Constant feedback gathering and asking to share in the community you build what they have done is another way to see what impact your teaching has had. It's not about the skill set you teach it's about being a better human being and create a better world together what counts.

📈Student's success is the first and only thing that I consider to be a parameter of my impact as a teacher. No matter what your degrees are and no matter how creative or smart you are as a teacher, what matters the most is how your student gained value from you and how this values became a catalyst in their success story.

Depends on the teaching level/stage: like preschool, school, high school, professional courses etc. . One way is ‘not to forget’ once the student passes that stage and trying to find out how well the student is doing in life (at the initial stages teachers groom the personality) and in profession in the field they trained professionally in the college and elsewhere. While the position/status of the person can be used as a metric to some extent, it is very difficult to find out how well the person (student) grew in to a better/best person in life!

Use the methods of contrasting with students, the methods is very simple, students will contrasting their day to day learning , once they can starting to able to execute the methods of contrasting with learning achievement with day to day or week to week it will be help them to identify their achivement and mastery level. for the maybe teachers can use the various tools for example make a simple rubrics where they can list down the skill knowledge and mindset they achieve and in day 2 coloum they input same, and now comparison with this 2. same as week

One thing which I think everyone should take care of while teaching is how your students are interacting with you in class. If they are alert, interactive, it automatically sends you a message that the teacher is impactful. Although, sometimes students themselves are disinterested in learning, even if the teacher is awesome, but many times, the body language of students says it a lot

I have students answer three prompts at the end of a session. 1. What did you learn today? 2. Why is it important to you? 3. What are you going to do with this newfound information to make yourself better today than you were yesterday?

Evidence of impact is again not limited to academic performance. It is also a qualitative and quantitative analysis. The quantifiable evidence can be collected by seeing the academic performance but qualitative impacts can be observed in the personality and behavior of the students. Collecting the evidence of impact is something that the teacher can use for showing examples to the next batches but in my opinion its not a good practice. It simply creates a benchmark for the newer batches to perform relative to the student, whom the teacher admire. But actually, every student has his or her own identity and performance standards. Instead teacher should focus in improving the student with reference to the student's performance.

Eye contact is most important to identify that you have the full attention of the student Learning material must be available to students especially summarized slides notes etc... for follow up notes before and after each lecture Test student understanding of lecture by asking them questions pertaining to the current lecture Before ending session

Student Feedback and Testimonials: Another way to showcase the impact of your teaching is through student feedback and testimonials. When students provide positive feedback about your teaching methods, classroom environment, or their language learning progress, it serves as evidence of your impact.For example If a student writes a testimonial expressing gratitude for your patient and engaging teaching style, and how it has helped them gain confidence in speaking English, it demonstrates the impact you have had on their language learning journey.

Classroom Observations: Classroom observations by supervisors, colleagues, or parents can provide valuable insights into your teaching effectiveness. Positive feedback and observations of student engagement, participation, and progress can validate the impact of your teaching. If a supervisor observes your classroom and notes the high level of student engagement, active participation, and noticeable improvement in language skills, it reinforces the impact of your teaching.

Evidence of impact isn’t always immediate. Some concepts takes years when students might remember but not find direct use (ability to measure in short term understanding)of their knowing. Analogy- a child might learn geography of earth in elementary ir middle school. But may graduate in economics from college. Yet today as climate change becomes important, the know about geography might help understand data sets from many different ecosystems around the world& ability to find, allocate, build resources to restore healthy conditions. The complexity is vast. But understanding is long term learning & remembering abilities for human. These cant be measured only as modules in short term ‘as in’ - effectiveness of teaching learning outcomes.

Student Work and Projects: Showcasing student work and projects can also demonstrate the impact of your teaching. When students produce high-quality work, demonstrate creativity, and apply the language skills they have learned, it reflects the effectiveness of your instruction. For instance If a student presents a well-researched and articulate presentation on a topic in English, incorporating vocabulary, grammar, and effective communication skills, it showcases the impact of your teaching on their language proficiency.

When a lesson was engaging, the concept was both well received and learned, and students remember it the rest of their lives, you take that lesson and use it to improve all other lessons. I had two such lessons in my teaching days. One was Pavlov’s dogs. The lesson was respect. Just because the bell rings does not mean you jump up and leave. The first time they did this (always freshmen), I would keep them AFTER the bell and explain Pavlov’s dogs to them. I would explain that they are NOT dogs, and can resist that urge to jump because the bell rang. My next class was always waiting outside, and they usually knew why. They’d come in saying, “Pavlov’s dogs day?” I’d say, “Yep.” And we’d move on. They never forgot.

Part Two: Another lesson of mine kids never forgot was their first introduction to trigonometry. Using the old Karate Kid movie for inspiration, SOH CAH TOA was acted out as though I were on top of the pole, hands out to the side like a bird, and I switched legs with a kick, saying SOH - CAH - TOA, over exaggerating the pronunciation so they would LEARN how to SPELL the acronym. Then I taught the lesson. Kids would find me in their adult years and tell me they never forgot how to use SOH CAH TOA. I learned when I make lessons engaging, kids remember. PS. One year my shoe flew off with my karate kick, flew clear to the back of the room, narrowly missing a student’s earl He NEVER forgot! lol!

Long-term Success: The long-term success of your students can be a powerful indicator of your teaching impact. When students continue to excel in their English language skills, pursue higher education or career opportunities that require English proficiency, it reflects the lasting impact of your teaching. If a former student goes on to study at a prestigious university or secures a job that requires strong English language skills, it demonstrates the long-term impact of your teaching on their academic and professional success.

💡Linkedin is my personal favorite platform to display the impact. 1️⃣ Eventually all students will use Linkedin for their careers and hence it guarantees that you will have the audience which matters. 2️⃣ As it supports media to share, evidence sharing becomes seamless and hence, all Stakeholders such as students, institutions and parents can gauge our progress.

It's a common practice to look at teaching impact just through learning outcomes. While there's definitely value attached to those outcomes, that is a limited perspective to assess impact of teaching. Educators should understand that learning outcomes don't stand in isolation of the context, and it's important to critically build on how those learning outcomes create meaning for the local community and its cultural context.
