How do you motivate and reward your team for achieving their goals?

The key from my experience to motivate and reward team is to have good knowledge about individual preference, career aspirations and values - Try to develop a sound understanding what motivates the team members - Understand team's career goal, strengths and area of developments - Setting SMART goals for the team and their agreement and signoff - Build a reward and recognition framework align with individual preferences and serves the overall purpose to motivate the team - Monetary rewards such as bonus, profit sharing, financial incentives and non monetary rewards such as extra time off , personalized gifts, thank you note - Provide opportunities for skill development via training, certification and stretch assignments

You should also consider regular one-on-one conferences / fireside chats. These often provide valuable information team members may not otherwise share.

Motivation is intrinsic and what drives an individual varies from person to person. When looking at rewarding your teams - one of the effective ways would be to have a fair understanding of what would drive the individual(s). This can come in from demographic factors like monetary needs, age profile, gender etc or from the behaviours exhibited. While monetary benefits may excite individuals at junior / mid levels - recognition in pubic forums, certifications, inclusion in privileged groups can be drivers for senior individuals. While customisation of rewards at individual level may not always be possible particularly for large teams - a broad understanding of what excites different sets of people can always help improve effectiveness.

Bien souvent le manager arrive dans une équipe déjà constituée et celle-ci a déjà ses forces, ses faiblesses, ses automatismes et ses craintes en vue du changement. La compréhension de cette équipe ne peut être entreprise sans un échange ouvert et collaboratif de chacun et en toute transparence. Il doit permettre de déceler, les leaders, les suiveurs ainsi que les points forts et faibles et déterminer les axes de progression et ceux à exploiter. Cette phase de "mise à nu" doit instaurer la confiance et démontrer le soutien et l'accompagnement que réalisera le manager. Ce face à face est inévitable et décisif pour la suite.

Cada pessoa é única e se motiva de forma diferente. Entretanto existem algumas coisas que funcionam em comum, exemplo: Reconhecimento do bom trabalho, seja em particular ou para o grande grupo, elogios, prêmios, etc... novas oportunidades, incentivos financeiros, cultura positiva e flexibilidade.

Mi experiencia me confirma que establecer metas claras y por sobre todo "alcanzables" y "asimilables" son diferenciadores de potencial éxito. Dicho lo anterior, establecerlas, que sean alcanzables y asimilables es parte básica y necesaria, pero el factor clave de éxito es la "Comunicación" de ellas su correcta delegación, seguimiento, control y retroalimentaciones, que deben ser constantes, planificadas y lideradas desde la operación misma. Aquello conlleva alto nivel de éxito y por sobre todo "Compromiso" de los Talentos!

Goal setting is always a subject of debate and definitely not an easy one. If set too high it can lead to discontent, undue performance pressures & non achievement however if set too low - it can impact the business & organisation performance and competitive position in the market. Hence realism in goal setting is critical balancin the above two. Clear alignment with the vision, mission and strategy would be the starting point and effective communication of the same would be the key to execution kickstart. The more we can involve the teams in goal setting exercise - better would be the buy in and acceptance. Teams should be see the goals as SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound.

Il n'est pas toujours simple de réaliser les objectifs quand ceux-ci ne sont pas fixés par le manager lui même mais par sa propre hiérarchie, ce qui est plus la réalité d'aujourd'hui. les objectifs sont décidés sans écoute ni concertation et redescendent en cascade. Ils sont souvent là pour servir celui qui les dicte. En découle une adaptation à l'échelle de l'équipe, qui n'est pas toujours simple à mettre en place ni à y faire adhérer.

Es esencial que cada miembro del equipo entienda los objetivos que se quieren alcanzar. Al establecer metas claras, les das un sentido de propósito y dirección. Además, asegúrate de que estas metas sean desafiantes pero alcanzables, para que el equipo se sienta incentivado a dar lo mejor de sí.

Le manager se doit de soutenir son équipe et ce encore plus lorsque qu'elle passe à coté de son objectif. Si tel est le cas et dans la plus part des cas, le manager a certainement sous évalué ou ignoré une étape, il doit analyser et communiquer avec son équipe les axes d'amélioration. Mais il doit aussi reconnaitre ses erreurs auprès de son équipe et tirer profit des commentaires pouvant en ressortir. Il n'est pas face à son équipe mais partie intégrante de celle ci.

I am a firm believer in the power of self-motivation among employees. Those who are self-driven continuously assess their performance against established goals and realities. It's their high-level objectives that primarily fuel their motivation. Thus, if an individual lacks a serious and clear grasp of achievement targets and goals, no incentive program, not even financial rewards, will suffice to motivate them. This underscores the importance of selectively recruiting individuals who possess a genuine desire to grow and elevate their level of success. Irrespective of the position or role an individual carries - reward & recognition is inherent to one's motivational needs. While rewards based on performance KPIs can be sharper for junior / mid level professionals - for senior managers the rewards need to be based on cumulative score of core KPIs with defined weightages as the width of the roles increases. Right behaviours when rewarded have a cascading effect on the culture and on the other hand if individuals who do not exhibit right behaviours as per organisation value system are rewarded can lead to discontent / mistrust.

Lembrem-se que existem coisas que são boas para a alma e outras para o bolso. Isso fará que vc poderá avaliar o que é mais importante em cada momento. Também importante ter clareza do que é reconhecimento (financeiro ou não) individual ou coletivo. Equipes muitas vezes funcionam como orquestra e o mais importante não é o desempenho individual mas o coletivo por isso fique atento como reconhecer esse trabalho coletivo para manter o time coeso e conectado com os objetivos da empresa.

In my experience evaluate and improve team members performances is challenging, performance appraisal for SMAERT goals are easy ones compare with behavioral appraisal, since most of the companies did not have a clear set of expectations of the behavior indicators in general and much less differentiation for the different levels as starter, applying, leading and role model, and this proficiency expected behaviors indicators should be different at various career levels. Improve SMART goals is always possible and easy to do. For behaviors in the first instance the subjective effect must be eliminated, that would be a great improvement on the appraisal system.
