How do you get your audience to say yes?

To get an Yes from your audience, you have to first make them believe you understand their problems. Most consumers are a solution-aware. But what extra you can give, is the question. Let them know you understand their problems. And the best way to do that is to share your story when you face a similar problem. If you're able to convince them that you know the problem and that's why you have the best solution, voila! It's easiest to get a Yes then!

People don’t buy Volvo. They buy the feeling of safety. People don’t buy iPhones. They buy the feeling of being different. People don’t Chanel. They buy the feeling of luxury. People don’t buy things. They buy feelings, impact, and identity. So don’t sell the offer. Sell the emotional connection.

To be clear - no one should be forced to say "yes". it should be a natural and self made decision based on the information and evidence provided. With that caveated, It is important in this scenario that your desired impact of your storytelling is to "persuade". By knowing this at the outset, it means that you are able to craft your storytelling with that impact front of mind. Your content and flow should all be geared around persuasion.

Understanding the needs and interests of the audience is important. If you realise their issues then only you can answer ‘why’ for them. You can gain the trust of the audience only when you give them the confidence that you can provide the solution that’s the best for them.

All will aid the stronger feelings towards persuasion through the building of trust, relationship and connection. By incorporating this into your storytelling you will stand a better chance in shifting your audience to an agreeable position.

Emotions are a powerful driver of decision-making. People often make choices based on how they feel and then justify those choices with logic. To appeal to emotions, tell compelling stories or present scenarios that resonate on a personal level. This could involve using testimonials, creating narratives that reflect common struggles or aspirations, or highlighting the emotional benefits of saying "yes." The goal is to elicit feelings of excitement, happiness, relief, or even fear of missing out, as these can significantly influence the decision-making process.

Nobody cares about your content. Nobody cares about your business. Heck, they don’t even care about your offer. What they care about is: 👉🏼 How your business makes them feel. If the audience relate with your story then only you can evoke emotions in them. Without relatability, appealing to emotions of the audience is not possible.

By doing so, you foster empathy, weaving a tapestry of relatable emotions. This shared journey transcends mere transactions, anchoring a genuine connection. Remember, the power of persuasion lies not just in the proposition but in the ability to make your audience feel a part of the narrative – where saying "yes" becomes a natural continuation of the shared story.

Much like the importance of emotions as already shared, this will in turn lead to a connection. The greater the connection you have with your audience as a storyteller, the greater the level of trust, relationship and relatability is formed. These factors will foster connection and in turn a higher chance of your audience aligning and agreeing to your position / story.

It's very difficult if not impossible to say "NO" to someone you know, like and trust. The same thing applies to your audience. The best approach to go about this is; 1. Be genuinely interested in your audience (know what they want) 2. Tell your audience why they need to say yes - A never-go-wrong way to do this, is to remind your audience they can always say no. When you preface a request this way, the chances you'll get a positive answer dramatically increases. 3. Tell them what to do

People like people who are like each other. Examples and stories shared are best relatable with them. Identify common grounds and relate your pain points with theirs.

If you want your customers to say YES to your product, here's what you'll need: A transformation story. => Your past customer had an X problem. => It made his life miserable. => He found out about your product. => Happily ever after. Show them the transformation so that they desire it for themselves as well.

In improv theatre, the most powerful two words are “Yes, and…” which is the act of continuing the story. This is what we want our audience to do, not merely to say yes and have it end there but to continue, carry on, and create a new chapter to our call to action. How do they see themselves in this? What other ideas has our message soaked in them?

Social proof shows your audiences that many others—people just like them—have benefited from your product or service. Sharing testimonials, reviews, and endorsements increases their trust and confidence in saying yes. You can also showcase the number of customers who've bought your product (i.e. "trusted by 10,067 fellow cat dads") and list awards and recognition. Another way to draw people toward a yes: Write conversationally. Write as if you're talking to a good friend. Ask a question (because isn't that how we talk in conversation?). Vary sentence lengths to pause and create rhythm. Loosen up your writing and avoid being stuffy. The more relatable your voice and tone, the more likely people will say yes to your offer.

To make people say "yes," connect with them by understanding what they want. Use positive words and show how your idea benefits them. Ask questions that are likely to get a "yes" to build agreement. Be trustworthy and create a sense of urgency if needed. By keeping things positive, understanding your audience, and using these techniques, you can increase the chances of getting a "yes" from them.

Here's what I find helpful when using the power of Yes: give the autonomy and choice for the audience. I am not sure about others- I am not a fan of asking this type of question "What do you think? Yes or Yes?" Let the audience feel safe if they actually say No. Saying No doesn't mean they reject us, it's about letting them pick a choice that's relevant for them. And usually after the No from them, knowing that they now feel safe making their own choice, they are more willing to listen to what's next.

Here's how you can strategically manage the substance on your story: Before you start writing your story post: Identify the overall pain points → Are you trying to educate your audience? → Or are you trying to promote a product? → What's the main goal of this post?

1. Build Trust and Credibility. Trust is the foundation of any "yes." Share your expertise and experience to establish credibility. Use testimonials, case studies, and real-world examples to demonstrate your track record and reliability. 2. Engage Through Stories. Tell relatable stories that illustrate the benefits of your proposition. Stories are powerful because they connect emotionally and make your message more memorable. When your audience sees themselves in your stories, they're more likely to say yes. 3. Be Authentic and Sincere. Authenticity is key. Be genuine in your approach and communication. People are more likely to say yes when they feel you are sincere and have their best interests at heart.

To get a Yes from the audience, be prepared to to receive No too. Because we tend to associate Yes with acceptance, hence we associate No with disappointment and rejection, sometimes failure. In fact, when dealing with No, the other part could feel that they have the power to make their own choice. This power creates a safe environment for them.
