How can you use the Product Vision Board to effectively communicate your product vision?

Another artifact that I usually use to communicate with the Product Vision Board is a Vision Type, which would be a very low-fidelity prototype that visually demonstrates what this product would be like and main user interactions. It is important that it is low fidelity to manage expectations and timely creation.

It’s a good tool to describe, visualise, and validate a product vision and product strategy. It captures the target group, needs, key features, and business goals, together in a place for easy review and sharing.

The Product Vision Board is a simple yet powerful tool that helps you capture and communicate the essence of your vision in a clear and concise way. Most importantly, don't confine it to closed rooms where only a few can understand. It should be a living document that even the most junior member of the team can clearly understand and align with their tasks. It should be very clear with Vision, Target group, Needs, Product-Solution and measurable Business outcomes. Remember, the Product Vision Board is a living document that can evolve over time. Regularly revisit your board to ensure it continues to reflect your vision and keep you inspired.

Outline Key Features: Clearly outline the key features and functionalities of the product on the board. Visualize the Strategy: Use visual elements such as charts and images to effectively communicate the overall strategy for the product.

Be clear on the Problem you are planning to solve, identity target group customer. Engage the customer in creating the product vision board filling in the section of Problem, what functionalities can make his life easy, more beautiful. Engage with your team of experts in filling the other sections of the board. It's to be a team work activity instead of one or few sitting in board room creating vision board. Explore options that fits to your context on various tools, templates that are available or use a combination of ideas and have your own format, style in creating the vision board. The content is more important.

Leveraging a Product Vision Board with low-fidelity wireframes, user flows, and pinned annotations for feature ideas and placements creates a visually compelling representation of your vision. Teams can then visualize and understand the concept as you see it in your mind, effectively communicating the product vision.

After the MVP stage, revisit the Vision board with the team and the target customer persona. Gather feedback and consider whether the vision board, the product, or both need to be changed. Be Agile in thinking and action, having Product mindset in heart.

For all key stakeholders, there is no need to have a plan on how to communicate a product vision board, as they need to be engaged in the process of creating the product vision board, which should be connected with their thoughts and hearts. For others, it depends on the product, target customer, and investor expectations. Tailor your communication style to align with their needs. Always have a few in traditional styles and a few in FOAK style. When selecting the communication plan, also consider the DVFS (Desire, Viable, Feasible, Sustainable) framework.

What I consider very important is ensuring frequency of touchpoints from interested parties with this artifact. I do this by remembering the board in reviews and weekly meetings with the tactical team and also with other external stakeholders ensuring influence in the upstream and downstream.

Apart from everything mentioned here and in the Product Vision Board, I have found it useful to include the key unknowns in the same chart. Since, this is a dynamic and ever evolving chart, the inclusion of current set of known unknowns helps in aligning the stakeholders on the current status and the immediate next stages of experiments or implementation.

To the best of my experiences, observe the competitor but never follow similar style in creating and communicating vision board. We need to have our " USP "
