In my view, establishing a "hierarchy" and distinctions among bosses, colleagues, and reporting lines isn't beneficial. When I held a leadership role, I strived to be approachable, which encouraged valuable and consistently constructive feedback. I've also been fortunate that all my own bosses have been equally receptive to feedback as well.

I always find helpful in any situation to bring a solution to a problem, with that said being really prepared for the conversation with your boss with quantitative and qualitative facts goes a long way.

In my experience it's always best to convey ANY information is in the context of either and challenge to be overcome or an opportunity to make something better. A positive approach generates a positive outlook and quicker acceptance. Also be precise. Having well documented points, both good and bad will make adoption of your proposals quicker and less painful. Knowing the risks as well as the potential benefits leads to a better decision. Lastly being able to demonstrate that addressing your needs and concerns will help advance the objectives of the orginization will ease acceptance.

I think it works for me to be prepared before expressing concerns or proposing anythingto anyone. It could help your expression to be understnadable and to be easier to let others(even your boss) to provde better solutions.

As far as presenting to a superior (or anyone for that matter), in my experience, it's best to think of this situation like a pitch meeting:Ask yourself, "How do I express this in an ENGAGING and informed manner?" It is extremely important to come prepared, but if you can't keep your audience engaged (be it 1 or 100 people), what you are presenting will be ignored and/or avoided.

Timing is always matters, If you want to convey anything to your boss please put it in right time, as a team member at least when the boss becomes free so that you can convey else you just send a note before you are scheduling a meeting with him, is this right time to talk like that. so that he aware and schedule accordingly.

I would say further, not only be respectful but also talk about yourself needs and not about other people issues especially not blaming your Boss. Talk as wishing to improve something related to your needs/capabilities/efficiency and whatever.

Consider well your examples. make sure they supports your goal properly and not arousing negative approach to the team or management.

Be sure your demands/needs should be in specific and precise, it should easy to understand by your boss, it shouldn't be mess when we convey our needs.

Sometimes it would be good to request for your boss ideas on solutions too not just your own. You show this way you respect him and also brings him into involvement.

Always try to find the solutions, don't stick with the problems it never give the solution. Be focus the way to find the answers.

Follow up is an important thing because our boss will be busy with multiple things then follow up its our responsibility to achieve our goal. while doing follow up about our work we would get some progress hence its mandatory to do otherwise it would become expiry at one point of time.

It's always good to keep track of occurrences and incidents, especially if they affect your area/squad. It helps to have better self-management and highlight points that go unnoticed, if necessary, to colleagues or management. Monitoring and looking at metrics means being one step ahead.

Something that is very important when we talk about manager/employee conversations is recurrence. The meetings should happen at least every 2 weeks, so the manager and the employee can be in touch frequently and communicate often about challenges and concerns that both have.

I would suggest to understand what you really want from this conversation and what would be a good result of it. Sometimes for example a good result could be an agreement to consider something or openness to further discussions. Sometimes you really want a real commitment , etc.

I agree with the different considerations and suggestions given above. It is always important that you project your needs in a way they are beneficial to organisation than just yourself. Having enough preparation and knowing business needs along with timing is most important. Best utilising 1-1 conversions to iron out needs and concerns.
