Effective Communication beginning with new employee's on-boarding is essential to a healthy and inclusive start into any department within a company. Each section within the Finance Department shall provide a series of video modules to each new hire to establish what is expected in the performance of their duties. In doing so, attendance in weekly meetings will allow employee's a voice in the same language for a diverse discussion pertaining to progress, goals and performance. It is vital for any organization to be effective and successful to have their employees to be seen and heard during internal discussion's especially if changes in policy or procedures become realized.

We used to do stand up weekly meetings that took 10 minutes max. They stayed focused and were always productive. We used email whenever possible thus avoiding unneeded meetings.

Many leaders under-communicate vision by a factor of 10. Lastly, when interacting with someone new, I will ask them how they like to receive feedback.

I always took it one step further and showed my team how to create objectives and to come up for objectives they expect from themselves and what they expect from me. That way all of the goals align all the way up. Everyone understands everyone leads from their current roles and everyone is accountable for their actions.

At times when key staff our out, to step into to their role to ensure critical reports are complete reinforces the team concept that we are all in this together. This leadership trait acts and serves as a model for others to follow when the need arises. Having employee's follow what has been modeled before them creates an environment that will lead to a company's success no matter what department within a company is leading by example.

When we would do call nights, ride alongs et cetera, I was right there doing the same as the team. I was often the first there and almost always the last to leave. It’s called leadership by example. I never asked the team to do something I wouldn’t and they knew it.

Both essential to creating a strong commitment, greater autonomy and less time spend in supervision.
